There is no "future proof". At best, you can get future resistant but some day you're still going to have to replace it. I think the reality is you just have to get the best your budget allows at a given time and run with it. There may be minor upgrades, like more storage or ram perhaps, but don't expect necessarily to upgrade the CPU or GPU. Some models may offer GPU modules but availability is extremely questionable and I wouldn't rely on promises. If you can get away with the external GPU route, that may offer more resistance, in which case try to get the best spec in the main body to support it in future.
