Should I get an 8gb RX 480 or a 4gb RX 580?

I have a budget of $220 and I can chose from 3 models of the 8gb RX 480. Sapphire, Gigabyte or XFX. All 8gb models, same price. I can also do a 4gb RX 580 for $200. What should I do?

580 8GB. $20 for an extra 4GB VRAM is a good deal.

Get an RX 480 8GB GTR and flash it into an RX 580 8GB GTR :P

You can just flash a 580 BIOS on your 480 and, boom, free upgrade :P

I don't recommend flashing any BIOS chips due to errors that may arise.

Read it as 480 8GB. The 480 to 580 isn't much of an improvement to warrant spending 200 vs 220.

This is why I recommended the GTR, Buildzoid was able to successfully flash his 480 GTR into a 580 GTR ;)

Buildzoid sounds like he has experience and little to lose if the card goes "pop!". The average user won't haver anything to fall back on if it goes wrong.

Get a 480 8GB, the new 580 is just an overclocked 480. You can overclock your 480 to the same speeds as a 580 and you will get the same performance.

The sapphire nitro + would be the best choice for overclocking. The gigabyte card would be the worst.

Afaik it has the best custom PCB out of these three. So yes. And it has a decent cooler aswell.

No, if you are careless and flash the wrong BIOS, you will brick the card. If you are careful, you can get a free 580 upgrade :D
