Cloning or imaging

Go to solution Solved by ARikozuM,

You can use Magician or Macrium Reflect. Just lower the image size to what the true usage is, clone the image to the new disk, and extend the partitions as needed once the new disk is imaged.

I have been bugging the forum ffor the last couple of days on cloning ,because i am switching out my laptop hdd 500gbs with a 850 evo (250 gb) , although the storage sizes arent same the content in my laptop is only about 150 gbs, so wondering will magician software from samsung be able to do that , considering the size difference , or would i have to use imaging , which i dont know much about, btw this was struck based on video with luke that went up on cloning ,

You can use Samsung Data Migration or whatever it's called too.

In my personal opinion I've got into the habit of if I want to change OS's or change a boot drive I always just start fresh. I don't bother creating a clone or image and restoring it to a new drive just because you never know if the software was able to put everything back exactly the way it began. I say this because some cloning/imaging software I've used in the past has cause HDD's & SSD's and their OS's to no longer behave the way they use to prior to copy and re-installation. Most of these results were when I used Macrium Reflect. It just didn't work for me and I didn't bother searching for something better.
