Hey guys!

I would like to know which CPU is better to buy, the i7-7700K or the Ryzen 7 1800X? I know that Ryzen would be the obvious choice, but it is still a newly released piece of hardware, meaning it could be unstable or buggy (lots of BIOS updates for AM4 motherboards are still being released by motherboard manufacturers for system stability). I'm taking into consideration the CPU's stability and price vs. performance ratio.
I've also bought some DDR4 RAM before Ryzen was released, it's a Crucial Ballistix Tactical 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 (http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/blt2k8g4d30aeta)I will use this RAM kit in my next system. I did some research on RAM compatibility and saw that Ryzen CPUs are having problems with DDR4-3000 and DDR4-3400 RAM.

I'm still bugged on which CPU to get, the i7-7700K for stability and compatibility or the Ryzen 7 1800X for more power, in exchange for system stability and RAM compatibility?

Ryzen is not the obvious choice. Actually, there is no such in this case, it really depends on what you'll use this PC for... speaking of which, what is your plan for the machine, what will you do with it?

Many of the launch bugs associated with ryzen have been dealt with ( Ram speeds , stability ...) .

the question is what do you do on your PC ?

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

I plan on using it as an all-around PC. Mostly for gaming, school use (programming), and a home server (for future use). I also use it for photo, video, and audio editing. And for some extras, I plan on installing Kali Linux (secondary OS) alongside with Windows 10 (main OS).

All around is perfect 1700X territory as it will definately have the muscles to do that, 7700K would excel more in a just gaming type scenario, :D

Why 1800X?  1700 can OC to pretty much the same point and you can use that difference in cost to buy more compatible RAM or a better GPU

I primarily chose the 1800X without considering the other Ryzen 7 CPUs (my mistake!). I just thought that the 1800X would be the perfect pair for a GTX 1080 Ti.

Thanks for these suggestions, I think I would rather go with the 1700X with OC :)

If you can get it cheap, go for it.  Because of how close the r7 CPU's are in performance (100-200Mhz max) the 1700X has received a significant price cut, especially at places like microcenter.

I see. So Ryzen may be the clearer choice here. For the purpose of the PC, I replied this to the two posts above:

Even a 1700x isn't worth it. A 1700 is a better buy than it.

I'd also suggest you make sure that you get RAM with Samsung B-Die, as it works nicer with Ryzen and higher memory speeds are important for Ryzen gaming performance.

At the minimum I'd get this kit of RAM and overclock it. http://pcpartpicker.com/product/L2mxFT/gskill-memory-f43000c14d16gvk

Unfortunately, I don't live in the US, therefore I can't order from Microcenter and such.

I just checked the prices of the Ryzen 7 CPUs. The 1800X currently costs ~$572, the 1700X with ~$440, and the 1700 with ~$371 here in the Philippines.

Going for the 1700X, I guess :D

no the 1700 none x............ spend the extra on a decent kit of memory so you can run it at 2933 or 3200. a 1800x@4.1ghz witrh 2400mhz ram is slower than a 1700@4ghz with 3200mhz ram.

Can an OC'ed 1700 achieve the performance of the 1800X or greater? If so, I might just get it, considering their prices here in the PH (1800X = ~$572; 1700X = ~$440; 1700 = ~$371)

Unfortunately, I already bought the RAM waaay before Ryzen launched, so I'm stuck with the Crucial Ballistix Tactical 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 (link can be found on the original post). I'll find some way if I could sell my current RAM kit, but for now, I'm only stuck with the Crucial Kit that I have.

Will take note of that RAM kit if I ever get to sell my current kit! Thanks for the suggestion! :D

Taking note of that! It seems like the comparison right now is between Ryzen 7 CPUs and their performance between different kits of RAM! xD

Yes, they overclock very similarly so it's not a big difference.

It's not a horrible kit, and I wouldn't sell it if you already have it, unless you get an offer for very close to the price you bought it for.

300 is fine, that will work ok, in that case put the money you save on the cpu into a gpu or motherboard.
