Hooking LED strip to a fan controller

Hello,

since pc fans run on 12V and LED strips also run on 12V, would it be possible to connect a led strip to a fan controller (3 pin, since it uses voltage regulation) and then regulate the brightness through BIOS or even use RGB to change color depending on temperature. I know you couldn't control the colors but since red lights up at lower voltage than blue it would be possible in theory?

Ty :)

Nice idea, this should work. Just be careful that you connect 12V to the power PIN and not to ground.

If you connect the grounds right, you can get either red, green or blue, fan speed should equal brightness.

But I'm not quite sure if the fan header can provide enough amps to power it.

If i would connect different fan headers in parallel it would have solve a problem with current...at least in theory :)

if it's DC it should work. if it's PWM there is more logic there so that might cause problems

I make Rainmeter things and other art :D
