Audio and video tracks lose sync :(

When I capture my screen using a screen capture software and I upload it into a video editing software, the video and audio track loose sync. This is really annoying because after the video goes on for a while, the tracks don't match up with each other. This problem seems to be happening with different video editing software. also, when I view the screen capture in a media player, it plays through fine. Why is this happening?? And how can i stop it?

the video is probably variable frame rate.

What are you capturing the screen with?

You can convert it with something like ffmpeg(handbrake is a nice gui) or use a program that records with a constant frame rate like obs

Exactly what Electronics Said. If you are also not already, try using your voice or sound cues from Windows (Adjusting Master Volume) and Trying saying 1-2-3 while doing something on the computer, then record what you were doing.

I'm using Snagit.

What do you mean by converting it to something?

Tell us how it goes and see if that helps syncing. Most Youtubers do this before the video actually starts so Audio and Video can be synced together in Post.

convert it to a different form so its constant frame rate.

Id also switch to using obs.

You may not have enough processing power to do both audio and video recording at the same time. You may need to record at a lower resolution and bitrate to help.

Do you know what resolution you are recording at?

From the looks of it, Snagit does not allow for custom resolution and bitrate (just High, Medium, and Low) in the preferences. Have you tried recording at Low?

the thing is, when i just view the capture in vlc media player, the audio and video are completely in sync, its only when the capture is uploaded to the video editing software that it actually loses sync, but why is this only in the editor??

Which editor are you using? Is it the one in Snagit?

If it is, I would recommend trying a different one if possible.

editors don't like variable frame rate video, you need to convert it for it to play well

Handbrake is a great conversion tool.

It is open source, free, and can be used for almost anything.
