Keyboard ribbon cable only works when pulled tight

JakeNTech

Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong place don't know where it should go.

Anyway I have this laptop that I am fixing and the keyboard and trackpad where dead, but when I went to remove the keyboard, while the laptop was still on, it came back to life. After some experimenting I found that when the car is pulled tight it starts to work again ; but when it is not under tension it dies again.  Is there a fix to this or do do I just need to get a new ribbon cable? Could it have been caused by it resting on the heatsink inside the laptop, which would be odd as it was designed like that. Thanks

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

It sounds like the cable or the connector itself is damaged, clean off the gold contacts on the ribbon and make sure it's apply proper pressure down in the connection. If it still doesn't work I would first try replacing the ribbon cable and go from there.
