Choosing a CPU for my Build!!!

Go to solution Solved by WashMachine,

For pure gaming you need the clock speed of the i5 instead of the core count of i7. I5 will do better for gaming. And as much games implement api's like vulkan and DX12 systems will need less cpu power so don't worry about future of the i5

Hi everyone.

Question: Which CPU is worth it more? $250 for the i5 and about $350 for the i7

I have a question and I hope to get some replies (:

I have everything for my PC. Except for my CPU. I am debating on 2>

i5 6600K

i7 6700K

(I do plan on Overclocked)

This build is purely for Gaming.

-Cities Skylines

-Minecraft

-Total War

-Indie Games

-Witcher 3

-FPS/MMO/RTS

Etc...

I believe I have posted on my profile my PCPartPicker list.

the i5 should more than be enough for what you wish to play but if you wanted that extra power get the i7 :)

if you have enough money for a i7 go for it because a bunch of new games are starting to need extra threads but the i5 would work fine too...

I7 still beats it in most games though, even in DX12 ones.

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Ryzen 1600

Best of both worlds IMO.

more threads/cores, and with fast RAM it's actually pretty damn good for games too.

Can someone clarify which is better for Cities Skylines, as I plan on playing that game first.

Not Max Settings per se. I know the game is CPU heavy.

i7 for sure but i believe that ryzen 1700 would perform better because of more cores and threads

The i7 has a higher clock speed.
