quick question about ram (easy question for most people)

Hello, I am building a new computer and i have 2x8 sticks of DDR4 corsair vengeance ram. I had a quick question: my motherboard has 4 slots, is it better to place the ram separated or together next to each other? is there a specific way i should place it or does it not make a difference?

Look at manual for how to use dual channel, the slot does matter.

depends on the motherboard, if you put them next to each other and the manual says that you have to put them in specific spots, then the RAM might not work properly, so just look at what the manual says.

Because different motherboards put Channels next to each other or apart.  It isn't a standard so you need to look it up.

i have the msi z170a sli plus motherboard, can someone please look it up for me? i cannot find it anywhere in the manual.

It seems likely in those circumstances the people who were assisting the individual knew the exact motherboard being used so they could go to the motherboard manufacturers website and look up the proper configuration.

Yes slot DIMM2 & DIMM4

Under most circumstances on consumer motherboards with four slots the slot furthest from the CPU and the second closest to the CPU are usually occupied first. However this isn't always the case and you have to consult the manual.

 

Provided the manual online is the same one you just tried looking in the answer should be on page 27.
