According to Fox: According to Tempe Police, the incident took place at approximately 6:25 p.m.. According to police. the self-driving car was heading south on McClintock Drive when another car failed to yield, while turning left at Don Carlos Drive.

Well at least they were in a XC90, they are hella safe. I've seen some in very very nasty accidents and they still manage to keep everyone inside safe.

It's not that safe, a truly safe car would still be the right way up.

 

Looking at the picture I'm not sure how it ended up like that? Was it the other car in the picture that failed to yield? Or was it just collected as collateral damage?

I'm not sure where the failure was, human or not (remember the freakout from the first self driving car crash that was another car running into them?), but regardless uber's self driving cars are shit.

Given the correct infrastructure and time, for most basic driving it would be leaps safer. I say this as someone who wants to drive myself as long as possible.

It was the other car in the photo that failed to yield properly. Volvo has a mission of being the safest car manufacturer, and their end goal is to have zero deaths caused by a volvo product.

You do realize it was the driver's fault, not the self driving car's fault, right? Most self driving cars being tested today are actually getting pretty safe (Google and Tesla come to mind). People always make a big shitshow whenever a self driving car is in a crash, regardless of whether or not the self driving car was at fault, and fail to realize regardless of the cases where the self driving car IS at fault the rate at which self driving cars are in accidents is MUCH lower than the rate at which human driven cars are.

in traffic, when you see some retard pushing it you would let him go ahead and distance yourself from him

since self driving are not self aware they only follow a set of rules that assumes everyone is following same rule .. you know, the law

Most likely the guy cut in front of the car. This happens IRL as well, and while most of the time accidents don't happen, sometimes they do. I'd say it should be programmed in there to stop if someone cuts in front, otherwise that's a huge flaw in Uber's system. I'm pretty certain Google and Tesla both have their cars programmed to stop if someone is breaking the law cutting in front of them.

 

And, as I said, self driving cars still end up in less accidents.

At this point, it essentially is AI that's driving the cars.

These incidents will occur, just a lot less frequently than driver on driver accidents. The common theme, however, is human error.

And while I had my suspicions, after this, I'm convinced zMeul is a troll of the highest order.
