What Ryzen means to Apple??

Guest

As much as apple would like to go for AMD's Ryzen for next Imac and Mac Pro, they'd not be able to guess why, THUNDERBOLT ports. (LOL)

Well now, why'd they think of doing so? Because they already are cheaping out on using AMD GPUs, which we all have to admit does not give good performance.

But what if AMD do get licence from Intel for thunderbolt?:o

Comment your thoughts below. Just a simple thought, don't take it seriously.

How so? Every Apple computer I've seen, minus their cell phone line obviously, have only used Intel parts.

So what about AMD GPUs? You specifically asked about Ryzen and Apple has ALWAYS used Intel CPUs and they most likely always will as it's a selling point as most people link Intel with "High Quality", hell most people don't even know who AMD is xD

Dude then why not Nvidia ? I never said apple used AMD CPUs before, but now Ryzen is competitive. Read the thread first..

Yes, they've been using Intel CPUs for like 10 years.  Intel iGPUs are common on the lower-end models.  However, their higher-end models usually use AMD GPUs.  I have two iMacs, and both have AMD GPUs (HD 5750 on the older one and R9 M295X on the newer one).

I honestly don't know.  Apple is already confusing me by not upgrading to DDR4 RAM yet. :S

Yes!  It's ridiculous!  I am fully convinced that they are milking people for their money on that one.

Guys, if I need a workstation, then I'm not going to pay $3000+ for a f**king quad core!  C'mon, Apple!  It isn't 2013 anymore.

Well considering this is a thread about CPUs I was talking about CPUs...a little bit of context is everything xD

I don't believe that Intel will be licensing Thunderbolt to AMD... at least not in the near future. It's a very compelling feature and Apple isn't going to drop that. Besides, most Macs are mobile machines, and we haven't seen the Zen core on mobile yet (we undoubtedly will eventually). Why they refuse to use Nvidia parts, especially for mobile machines, is beyond me. I'm guessing it's some kind of longer-term deal with AMD, starting with Mac Pro in 2013. It's not working out so well for Apple I think, personally, but obviously I don't have any insights into their internal matters.

It was cheaper. I was looking at the deal and bids from AMD and nVidia. Considering Apple software can run well on literally anything that Apple makes, power wasn't a huge issue. Neither is thermal throttling because EVERY SINGLE Macbook Pro 15 since 2012 thermal throttles at stock and Apple does not give a fuck and neither do their customers. Lastly, these aren't gaming machines so to put in a nvdidia GPU in that is MORE expensive cuts into their bottomline. Because Apple uses proprietary software such as Final Cut Pro, there is not direct comparison to Windows so they literally don't give a shit. The new Macbook Pro runs Final Cut better than the last one and that's all it matters.

Yeah, that's possible to be honest... I use a MacBook Pro myself, but if I was looking at buying a larger, powerful mobile machine like today, I don't think I'd get the 15" MBP. The new design is nice, the display is amazing and so on. But when spending 3k on a laptop, it should have the best hardware suitable for its form factor/design that is available at the time. This doesn't mean GTX1080 and desktop i7. That wouldn't work for obvious reasons, not even taking the price into consideration. So really, all that's wrong with it, besides the price hike to the entire Pro line, is the GPU choice.

That said, there isn't really a suitable Nvidia part out there either. GTX 1050 and 1050Ti for laptops is still rated at 75W, but compared to the laptop GTX 1060 at 80W with significantly higher performance, I don't buy that number. I'm sure Apple could have used the 1050 and adjusted clocks accordingly, so that they end up with something that works in the MacBook Pro 15". They would have ended up with better performance (most likely). Given that it's really super thin, that's about all you can realistically expect from that machine.

Since maximum performance isn't even the goal with the MacBook Pro, especially in gaming, I find their hardware choices mostly reasonable. I would not spend that much on it though, personally.

I agree with you, no doubt also they can totally use R5 1400 over the current cpu with just a little more wattage, which they obviously can adjust with clock and also Zen I think can be mobile with their 14nm tech. So we may see zen's mobile architecture.

and as Apple doesn't show their computers to be gaming, this gives perfect reason for them to use Ryzen at cheaper rates and more power, Final cut is the basic reason (mostly I have seen) why people by Macbook, it would work amazing with Ryzen.

About rates, this will make them sell the computers for same rate and have extensive profits!!
