yeah most likely. I had that happen to me with some LSTN headphones they gave me for testing and I thought they sounded better after a months use, but a new pair sounded 100% the same..

All of those channels know close to nothing about audio and often do poor research when it comes to audio subjects.

Burn in is a rather old audio myth with no facts to back it up. I am not aware of a single FR that backs up the burn in myth. I think it started because people got more used to how their headphones sounded and started to like it more and more, so they thought that the headphones got better after a burn in period, that was at least what happened with me and the LSTN headphones.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

There are two ways a headphone can change, the material properties and the geometry.

 

If the material were to change it's properties in any noticeable way in a reasonably short time period (e.g. the aforementioned 20-200 hours) then the material is going to keep changing at a rate where they would break very quickly. They would then be slated so badly no one would buy them as noone wants to spend £300 on headphones every month.

 

If the geometry were to change (the drivers 'settling') then there is space for the drivers to move. And they won't stop moving until they rattle themselves to death. This would be very noticeable to the listener.

 

I'm not saying that the pads can't change over time through use, but they are usually replaceable to the original properties and can be discounted as an environmental change.

Yeah "burn in" doesn't make any sense if you think about it.

The things that could make "Burn In" legit:
 

Surrounds loosening up/driver movement more free

 

However that wont affect it much, especially with headphones.

Most of the "effects" are from pad break in and user adjusting to headphones.

Any effect with headphones is not going to take tens for hours, nor is it going to transform the sound of a headphone.

Burn in is a rather old audio myth with no facts to back it up. I am not aware of a single FR that backs up the burn in myth. I think it started because people got more used to how their headphones sounded and started to like it more and more, so they thought that the headphones got better after a burn in period, that was at least what happened with me and the LSTN headphones.

I remember seeing a video about this somewhere but I forget who was even in it and where I saw it - at least it had to do with placebo and audio fidelity.

Burn in is a thing, but it's a minor effect that shouldn't make any significant changes to the overall sound. Most of the burn-in discussion is usually either someone acclimatizing to something new or someone trying to rationalize why other people don't like their favorite headphones out of the box.

I believe in burn in time. My 668bs had REALLY harsh highs for a few weeks
