Hey everyone! I've thought this was obvious when others were asking, but now it's happening to me and I'm not too sure. I currently have 2 Zotac Reference Style 980Ti's that I have had for a little while. With the 1080Ti coming out very recently with astounding performance for such a good price, I was wondering if I should sell my Ti's for the new Ti. This seems kinda obvious to go for the 1080Ti but there are a couple more factors. First, I am going to build a custom loop, which would require water blocks for the graphics cards. This might seem like it's in the 1080Ti's favor, but keep reading. The other thing is how much I can currently get for my 980Ti's. The best offer I have gotten for it is $515 for both, which is not that much. If I did sell them then I would have to buy the 1080Ti, then the water block. If I kept my 980Ti's then I could just buy the water blocks, which would only be around $230 or so. If I sold my 980Ti's and went for the 1080Ti, I would be spending and extra $200 for the 1080Ti itself, and then I would have to buy the water block over top of that. What do I do? I'm sorry if this was confusing, I can't think of any other way of putting it. If you were wondering, I am going to be playing on a 1440p 144hz monitor.

Always go single card when you can. Thing is, you're losing quite a bit of money selling those 980 Tis. $515 for two of them? Way too little. Try selling them individually for $350-$400 each.

According to this video: 980ti SLI has a 10-17FPS fluctuating average higher than the 1080 on Witcher 3 probably 1080p.

According to Linus's Video: 1080ti has an average of 16-19FPS higher than the 1080 on 4k games.

So it looks like 1080ti beats 980ti SLI if by marginal amounts and I don't know the resolution of the Witcher 3, but if it is 1080p then it could lose even more to the 1080ti if it is being used in 4k.

OP is playing at 1440p. 1080 Ti has a 20-30FPS lead over the 1080 at 1440p.

Also, duderandom84 always tests at 1440p.

Cool, that's good to know. I speculated 1080p because that's all that the YouTube resolution would be me view. But IMO if it was ran in 4k, the extra frames gained from the 980ti sli would be a little bit less also. Just to match up with Linus's 4k benchmarks.

Really all that matters now OP is that, do you want to run Dual GPUs or a single GPU. A single GPU will have better optimization for all games, while dual GPUs will need to be optimized by the developer for each game. Also It is 6GB of GDDR5 vs 11 GB of GDDR5X.

Exactly, I can't get that much for the 980Ti's anymore, unless someone wants to buy them here *goes to classifieds*

Bull Shit LOL. A 980ti is still worth 300 bucks used. They sell within minutes locally for that price here.

The ONLY reason to trade 2 980ti for a 1080ti is VR. Even then Vega is looking to be the better alturnitive in VR than the 1080ti because AMD is taking VR more seriously. I just picked up Sniper Elite 4, a AMD backed game. At 1440 and MAX settings I get a locked 110fps, with jumps past my refresh rate of 144hz.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Apparently sniper elite 4 has perfect scaling in dx12 ?

Is this true

I still get better performance in DX11 only. SE4 has a DX12 "mode", same as Hitman and other DX12 ports. But the latest driver from Nvidia did get rid of the fps drops in DX12 mode.

But yeah, my scalling is insane.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I like it here. Though the other side of the coin is selling used is a pain. Too many people blame you for them not being able to install things correctly, of just plain blow it up and blame you.

Why I still have my two.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I believe the reason you are having issues selling them is because they are reference cards and not made by ASUS/MSI/EVGA. There are plenty of used 980 TI's on the aftermarket right now with people upgrading, and normally the higher range cards will go beyond reference.
