My 4790k never downclocks. Never really paid attention before with all the overclocking that I did when I first got it. Even when I set the setting back to default, it still does it. So idk if this board has a certain setting or a c state that needs to be reverted that I cant find.

Bios has a million options but most still is pretty simple to navigate. Just trying to see if its effecting the gpu bug and also don't need to be wasting all this power when nothing in the system seems to be downclocking.

Board is the Asus Maximus 6 formula. Loaded the defaults values minus optional fan settings and fast boot.

Just want it to downclock like normal, unless this cpu/mobo doesn't do that and im mistaken.

it should be able to do that, I can't imagine that mobo won't allow it.  Have you enabled; Turbo mode, intel enhanced speed step, and c-states?

Is it set to balanced in Windows power management?

On balanced it does move even though voltage stay at max. But my other rig will downclock even on high power.

It will go too 800, 3800 then back to 4400.

Turbo is off, intel is on auto same with c states.

At least you have a good sense of humor bud.

So the problem is that voltage isn't scaling up and down correct?  CPU speed is scaling as long as it's set to balance in Windows?

If it's voltage only that isn't scaling, you need to change your voltage type from manual to adaptive.

In windows there is a cpu-power-management-setting in the advanced settings of an power-profile, which can force the cpu to its maximum clock all the time. This is to eliminate the delay when switching between frequencies and therefore enabled by default in the high-performance-profile.

I would guess, that it this setting isn't enabled in the high-performance-profile of your other pc ;)

Could be because youre set to high performance in that asus software, have you tried that on auto or any of the other settings?

The power saving thing doesn't do much, nothing moves.

Yea with balanced clock is moving, ill restart and change voltage because its not moving. Just surprised default settings are like this.

The 3770k rig downclocks. but not nearly as much as balanced. Had to change quite a bit to get it to 4.5 though.

Guess ill just turn the 4790 back to 4.8 or go for 5.0 and just use balanced.

try switching intel est to on and enable at least a few of the levels of cstates.  Who knows what they're doing when they're on auto
