Is it worth it to get a motherboard with wifi built in? My living situation prevents me from having a wired LAN connection so I need wifi either through an adapter or through the motherboard. The motherboard with wifi is ~$30 more than one without. Wifi adapters start at $10 but I kinda assume that the $10 dollar adapters are shit. Can anyone recommend a wifi adapter if you think I shouldn't get the motherboard?

Having on board WiFi is nice, but I wouldn't say it should be a requirement. Even in a case like this. I would still recommend a USB or PCIe WiFi adapter.

What's the budget on the adapter?

Any preference over the other or doesn't matter (USB / PCIe)?

Really doesn't matter, whatever gives me the best connection for the lowest price while maintaining that performance over time. Seems like some people online have had their motherboard wifi cut out after some time and had to buy an adapter anyway. But, this has also happened with people that owned adapters so maybe its a moot point.

Well I mean this is where the preference comes in. With something like USB, you can easily remove the WiFi device and still continue to use the PC and plug it back in later etc... However with something like PCIe, you have to shut down the computer properly and then remove it. PCIe is more aimed towards being a more permanent sided solution (obviously not truly permanent, but you get the idea).
