Basically I am looking for recommendations on a good soundbar/subwoofer. I just recently started setting up a new TV setup in my spare room.  I am looking for a really good TV but from my experience the stock TV speakers are never really that great. I am looking for a good setup for music and movie watchings. Doesn't have to be a soundbar, could just be a multi speaker setup. etc. Thanks in advance

I have a decent budget 500 ish maybe up to 1k. It really depends where the sweet spots are in pricing.

For $1000 I would recommend the SVS Sound Prime 2.1 package plus a receiver from Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo, or Pioneer.

For $500, same choice of receivers but with a pair of Pioneer Andrew Jones bookshelf or floor-standing speakers plus subwoofer.

Features you want in a receiver:

  • 2.1 for stereo (2 channel) music and TV - less expensive; will also support movies
  • 5.1 for surround (5 channel) for movies - more expensive
  • HDMI pass-thru
  • Crossover control for integrating the subwoofer with speakers

You should be able to get all these features for $200-300 and potentially a lot less if you are open to buying used. I'm also assuming that you have an optical media player or HT PC with HDMI output.

Also in a receiver, you want 4k hdmi IF you display is about 1080p.

Used you can snatch up some crazy deals.

Then you need to make sure the receiver you buy supports 4k (most new ones do, but if you buy used, you will need to be carefull)
