I am interested in buying a new smart watch for audio control, notifications, fitness tracking etc. I noticed Linus had a few different ones throughout his time and I wanted to know which ones you guys like the best. I hate apple so do not say apple smart watch RiP.  Thanks in advance. I also have a few hundred budget.

My honest opinion right now is to NOT buy ANY smartwatch until someone develops one that has an acceptable battery. Now, this is subjective, so if you're OK with a smartwatch you have to charge everday, I'd either go with one of FitBit's or Garmin's GPS watches. They're the ONLY contenders with real software support dedicated to fitness tracking and notifications.

Every other smartwatch on the market is focused on being an extension of your phone, which is fine too, if that's what you're after. It's just that we're not at a point of weeklong battery life in smartwatches, and therefor they're really annoying compared to just using a regular watch and checking your phone separately. But again, this is just my opinion. Either wait for better smartwatches, or go with a smartwatch from FitBit or Garmin at this point.

Being smart, and not buying a smartwatch.

It's called 'pulling out your phone instead and spending your money on PC shit'

I really appreciate your ignorant assumptions about my needs. I will take that into consideration when making my decision

I would say get a pebble, but...

hello!

is it me you're looking for?

ᴾC SᴾeCS ᴰoWᴺ ᴮEᴸoW

Spoiler

Desktop: X99-PC

CPU: i7 5820k

Mobo: X99 Deluxe

Cooler: Dark Rock Pro 3

RAM: 32GB DDR4
GPU: GTX 1080

Storage: 1TB 850 Evo, 1TB HDD, bunch of external hard drives
PSU: EVGA G2 750w

Peripherals: Logitech G502, Ducky One 711

Audio: Xonar U7, O2 amplifier (RIP), HD6XX

Monitors: 4k 24" Dell monitor, 1080p 24" Asus monitor

Laptop:

-Overkill Dell XPS

Fully maxed out early 2017 Dell XPS 15, GTX 1050 4GB, 7700HQ, 1TB nvme SSD, 32GB RAM, 4k display. 97Whr battery :x
Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

Asus Zenwatch seemed like the best bet when I was looking at them a while ago, though I've heard good things about the Samsung ones as well.

If my memory serves me right Linus have one of the Zenwatch. I noticed he has a bigger round one that might be the LG one. I will def check it out. Thanks for the reply.

MY assumption is based on the multitude of options available to consume your data that don't require you to shell out multiple hundreds of dollars on a gimmick that either is no longer supported (pebble) or requires you to recharge on an average of less than a full days use. God forbid you should need to travel somewhere without your Qi charger.

I find most of the smartwatches on the market a nice gimmick but useless in practice unless you're receiving them for free.

For reference, I owned a Sony Smartwatch 2 for about 3 months. I wore it on and off and eventually went back to my old watch then stopped wearing watches altogether.

It's quite annoying when your friends open stuff up on it, you can't read the display at night, and it's just generally annoying.

idk

Thanks again for yet again assuming why I need a smart watch. Please avoid from making rash assumptions on others behalf. I do appreciate the commentary though.

I know! I was just ready to get my pebble when I heard the news. That is why I am looking for a pebble replacement. I was so sad.

Just for reference. The buyer of pebble was fitbit. If you want to wait 3-6 months for pebble's tech to make it into fitbit products...

Ya I can understand that. Up until recently I could never wear anything on my wrist.

I am aware of this. Thank you for the comment. I was maybe interested it the newish update to the google wear and as the update will roll out to older watches I thought to pick up one of the variety of those options.
