You can get the 7700k for $320 at Micro Center. However, the CPU needs to be delidded to get good temperatures, which is unsafe to do without a delidding tool. However, you can pick up a delidding tool on eBay for $10, or 3D-print one yourself if you ahve access to a 3D printer.

LOLZ.

Delidding is a option for Serious overclockers who also want to maximise life of a serious overclock, not for people that just want to game with mild OC.

7700K appears better chioce for 1080p gaming based on current information...

BUT:  its also a little OP for only 1080p - you will get by at that res with a lesser CPU - but maybe not for 4-5 years though

You're embarrassing yourself by ignoring the evidence I clearly linked in my previous post.

The chip runs from 20 to 25 degrees celsius cooler. It's an option for someone who wants to fix Intel's MISTAKE of using shit for thermal compound by having their CPU run at 65 degrees rather than 90, increasing the lifespan of the chip - arguably even at stock speeds, which are 4.2 base and 4.5 turbo.

And lastly, if OP wants his/her CPU to last 4 or 5 years, then overclocking is the best option. Do you think the 2500k and 2600k still hold up at stock speeds? They don't. They get beaten by a Pentium G4560 and a Core i5 7400 respectively at stock, but overclocked, they can put up a fight against modern high-end CPUs over six years after their release.

Wrong. That depends on the GPU. If he/she wants to use it with a GTX 1050, there won't be a difference at 1080p. However, if he/she intends to use it with a GTX 1070 or 1080, it will make a serious difference, particularly in CPU-intensive titles like GTA V, Watch Dogs 2, and Ashes of the Singularity.

CS:GO is a CPU-bound title, and is by far the most popular FPS game on PC, and is among the most popular games overall.

Lastly, a 7700k will make a difference when it comes to high refresh rate gaming. If OP can afford a 7700k and wants to game at 1080p, then I assume he/she is going to be using a 144hz or even a 180hz display.

Seriously?

Another LOLZ is due... and i can paste an image of my own delidding kit if you like...

The issue is not "is delidding an option", it is instead  "is de-lidding an appropriate first comment response for a normal person that asks a basic question about should they buy which CPU".

Your response to a stock standard question about CPU's went straight to "delidding a CPU" without even asking the poster anything about their skill level or OC intent or anything else of relevance.

My LOLZ was for the not well considered nature of your response, not its base content.

Is delidding an appropriate suggestion when recommending a 7700k? Yes.

OP would like his chip to last longer, which it will undoubtedly do running at lower temperatures. The disparity will only increase with an overclock, which OP will have to undertake if he wants his CPU to perform on par with future products.

You're either being an Intel fanboy in saying that their appalling stock thermal compound is good, or you don't know the benefits of a CPU that runs 25 degrees cooler for longevity and better performance.

OP wants the chip to last five years, which necessitates an overclock at some point (and the chip already runs at a base clock of 4.2 and a boost clock of 4.5).

Or maybe you're laughing because you have no idea what any of this means.
