So I moved from a atx to an itx that doesn't have a m.2 socket.  I have purchased two adaptors from Amazon but neither of them when used show on Windows as drives in my computer, disk management, or in the command prompt.

Is there an adaptor out there so I can wiped my m.2 without a m.2 socket.  I have an Asus impact viii and only have a u.2 or Sata connector.  I guess I should have wiped it before I sold my motherboard but oh well.

There is something like http://www.delock.de/produkte/G_62704/merkmale.html?setLanguage=en

The problem with most of the "M.2 to SATA" adapters you're finding is they only work for M.2 SATA.

I thought that but the motherboard I have doesn't have a pcie express.  Can an express fit in a full length pci lane?

Look, I can almost guarantee that if you have an ITX board the slots on it are PCIe and not PCI.

PCIe slots come in PCIe versions 1, 2 and 3. They also come in sizes (through put) of 1, 4, 8 and 16. PCIe slots are backward and forward compatible (sorta kinda).

If a PCIe card fits in a slot, even if it is shorter than the slot, it will work. If you don't mind using a dremel on your motherboard (not recommended), you can even get longer cards to fit into a shorter slot, and it will work (sorta kinda).

Sgt. Murphy says, "Never forget that your weapons and equipment were made by the lowest bidder."

your mobo doesn't have a PCI. it has a PCI-E 3 x16 slot. you can always put a lower lane card in a higher lane slot. like the M.2 adapter

so an x2 or x4 lane card will fit fine in the PCI-E 3.0 x16 slot. Unless you have a GPU in it.

Either that or sell the M.2 drive and get a U.2 drive.. since it supports it... profit?

like I just wrote. you could use an M.2 (or even dual or triple M.2 or Ultra M.2. whatever.) to PCI-E adapter.

My knowledge on PCIe slots is not great.  Thanks for the info.  I did a little research and found exactly what you wrote.  I plan on selling it which is one of the reasons I want to wipe it first.  I picked up a Intel 750 u.2 as a substitute.
