Good AMD bench surfaces.

Skepticism ensues.

Although to be fair an 1700 has to be overclocked to reach 4Ghz. It performing almost identical to a 7700K in single thread is very interesting.

Awareness is key. Never enough, even in the face of futility. Speak the truth as if you may never get to say it again. This world is full of ugly. Change it they say. The only way is to reveal the ugly. To change the truth you must first acknowledge it. Never pretend it isn't there. Never bend the knee.

Underclock it and plex server?

SFF-ish:  Ryzen 5 1600X, Asrock AB350M Pro4, 16GB Corsair LPX 3200, Sapphire R9 Fury Nitro -75mV, 512gb Plextor Nvme m.2, 512gb Sandisk SATA m.2, Cryorig H7, stuffed into an Inwin 301 with rgb front panel mod.  LG27UD58.

Aging Workhorse:  Phenom II X6 1090T Black (4GHz #Yolo), 16GB Corsair XMS 1333, RX 470 Red Devil 4gb (Sold for $330 to Cryptominers), HD6850 1gb, Hilariously overkill Asus Crosshair V, 240gb Sandisk SSD Plus, 4TB's worth of mechanical drives, and a bunch of water/glycol.  Coming soon:  Bykski CPU block, whatever cheap Polaris 10 GPU I can get once miners start unloading them.

MintyFreshMedia:  Thinkserver TS130 with i3-3220, 4gb ecc ram, 120GB Toshiba/OCZ SSD booting Linux Mint XFCE, 2TB Hitachi Ultrastar.  In Progress:  3D printed drive mounts, 4 2TB ultrastars in RAID 5.

After I finish some upgrades, I'll be giving a bunch of my old hardware to a friend so he can get back into gaming.  The 8 gigs of ram, mATX AM3 motherboard, and a semi-acceptable 560w PSU sitting on a shelf sure sounds to me like it's a case, $50 Phenom II X4, discount RX470, and a storage drive away from being a decent 1080p gaming setup.

i7-7700k @ 4.2 GHz: 2301 / 4.2 = 547.857

OCed R7 1700 @ 4.0 GHz: 2251 / 4.0 = 562.75

In a few hours, I will be deciding whether to take drastic steps like looking into how I can sell my brand new unopened i7 6700k, Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 5 and Cooler Master Nepton 120XL o.O Really hoping that the 4K 144Hz monitors start showing up at least by June....

I want to future proof my rig to some extent. So a computer with 4 cores with good single threaded performance for DX11 games and 8 cores for new DX12 and Vulkan games would be a godsend :D Would handily match the 7700k in older games and beat it in newer games that take advantage of more threads.....

Genie and this post have something in common. They are both fictional. Lol. No way, if this was the case, AMD would be shouting it from the rooftops.

Currently have an Asus TUF 3080 with a Ryzen 5 3600.

Why would they shout that when their CPUs are overclocked they're are faster than an Intel part from the rooftops?

Here's my take on all of this. I go to Micro Center THIS MORNING to pick up my preorder and pick out a board (too many good options). If the reviews come out at 9am and they are not good, hey, I get to go to 2011-3 or 1151 i7 and save money. But if it's the same or better, AMD, here I come.
