Crosshair VI Supports AM3 and AM4 Coolers!

https://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cpu_mainboard/amd_ryzen_rog_am4_crosshair_vi_hero_preview/1

Boom! Right there. Scroll down until you see the title, "AM3/AM4 Cooler Support" and in those pictures, you can see that this is the only board that has support holes for BOTH AM3 and AM4 coolers! This is a fantastic design that hasn't been reported on any other board yet (from what I've seen) and is a HUGE selling point.

After headaches of searching for the best cooler, now we can just reuse what we already have if you still have your AM3 brackets for your cooler!

Hope you guys enjoyed this awesome tid bit of information!

If it is so easy to do, would we see it on boards other than this top model? I've already ordered an adapter kit.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

Who knows. If you zoom in on the ASUS Crosshair board at the mounts, you can see the holes underneath. So, that's the only way of telling. I'll check MSI, Asrock, and GIGABYTE's offerings real quick. But from this, no adapter is needed for your current cooler it seems.

From what I looked at, MSI Titanium, Asrock Fatality Pro, and the GIGABYTE K7 do not seem to have this feature. I'm surprised none of them thought about it. For the same price as the ASUS, I'm going ASUS regardless. This could save a lot of people money.

How many people would have a spare AM3 cooler they would want to reuse? Or back a step, did AMD need to move the holes at all in the first place? I'm just wondering if it more than hole position, like if the height of the surface of the CPU is the same or not?

That's a good question. Apparently, some coolers that have the adapter kit is having pressure issues. So not a motherboard issue, just an adapter issue. The holes were moved (who knows why that made sense). The height of the CPU is literally the same sense coolers, like the H60 AIO for example, that have the clamp style mechanism will work on AM4.

Im saying that people that have an existing H110i for example that supports AM3+ but do not have the clamp mechanism, can use the holes on this board for their AM3 bracket that came with their coolers. Does that make more sense?

The Crosshair VI was a sure buy for me, but they have cheaped out for the power phase components. As the first previews shown :( So am looking into the gigabyte offerings.
