GTX 1080 BIG problem, need advice/help ASAP

joshov

Hi everyone, hope you can help me!

Finally got my hands on the new GTX 1080 EVGA SC2 from Scan. My previous card is the GTX 660 ti, which runs fine still without any problems.

When I installed the new GTX 1080, the lights work, and the fans work, but the screen only shows my BIOS, and I am unable to even press any keys to go into my BIOS as it is all frozen. After 3-5 minutes, the screen will eventually go black/blank. I checked before buying that my computer parts are fully functional with the GTX 1080, unless I am missing somthing?

PC Specs;

Gigabyte SKT-1155 Z77X-UD3H Motherboard

Intel 3rd Generation Core i5-3570K CPU (4 x 3.40GHz, Ivy Bridge, Socket 1155, 6Mb L3 Cache, Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0)

Corsair CMPSU-750TXV2UK Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 High Performance 750W Power Supply

Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Vengeance Memory Two Module Kit

What am i doing wrong? :(

Have you tried to reseat the graphics card?  Also, you could make sure that your display's cable is plugged into the motherboard is possible to use your onboard graphics, then install the GPU driver from there.

unnistall the GPU from the system, boot using onboard graphics, DDU drivers in safe mode, turn all off, place the GPU back in the mobo again but stay with the onboard graphics, boot up... install Geforce Experience and let it update drivers by itself automatically, once done turn all off, finally switch back to the GTX 1080 and boot up, should work like a charm.

The only thing I can think is the old driver is conflicting and messing with it. Use the onboard gpu and completely uninstall the graphics driver so you are using micro softs compatibilities driver. Care fully insert the gpu make sure its fully in and the power cable is fully inserted. Boot it up and see if it will work then. If it doesnt try the old gpu if it wont boot with it then its your motherboard if it does then its the gtx 1080.

Here is an update;

I managed to get the 1080 to work HOWEVER, the 680 ti HAS to be plugged it to the motherboard as well for it to be recognized and function. I have 750 wats PowerSupply, so i am not worried, but it is just not needed. What is the best thing i can do, apart from buying a new Motherboard.

Also, my GPU is perfectly fine as my friend brought his system down and we placed the GPU on his system and it worked perfectly.

Dude did you try reformating? Pretty sure it's a driver issue at this point if you can get it to work with the older card.

I don't understand why it would be a driver issue, as I used Driver Uninstaller already. But reformatting is something I have to try, hate reformatting so much

If it shows up abandoned works it's a software issue. Set it up to start in safemode. Put the 1080 in by itself. Start up and install drivers. Make sure the drivers are already downloaded or start with networking.

Soon as the 1080 is plugged in on its own, i cannot do anything. The PC turns on, and is stuck on BIOS. I cannot even access my BIOS, it is just frozen.

Its nothing to do with drivers at this point, its hanging at the bios post - hence the freeze, until it posts no drivers are loaded.

@joshov

Try the card in a different slot if you have one, If possible can you take a picture of the card installed in your case and post here, incase we can see anything wrong

Plug both cards in like before and a monitor in each. If it worked completely fine in the other pc there has to be something being done wrong.
