For gaming you won't notice a difference between the i7 and i5, maybe only if you take a 1080 instead of 1060 and try to max all games at 4k it will get you a few extra frames.

I'd go with an 8GB RX 480 for the soul reason that you can find Freesync 1080p monitors for extremely cheap. Just have to look around, /r/buildapcsales may have one.

I think so, from some tests i've seen the cpu utilization is not even close to 90, let alone 80, percent when the i5 is combined with a 1060.

When does he plan on getting a 1080? If he does just don't buy a 1060 and hold out or if you NEED something to play some games on you can find a used 750Ti for $55. Also we might have more information on Vega by then.

Dude if you're concidering the 1080 ti than I shouldnt go for ht i5 if I were you. The i7 will provide a noticable and worthwhile performance boost.

We still don't know if a 1080Ti is even launching...

I'd see if you can find out a rough date of it and just get a used low end GPU, like a 750Ti to hold you out until he does or whatnot. 750Ti can game 1080p med-high settings 30-75FPS. I got Min 34 FPS, AVG 63 in GTA V with my old 750Ti at a mixture of med-high settings
