My take on the BeatsX wireless.

TechyAlex

My BeatsX headphones came in yesterday. So far I have loved them. They are not anything like any other beats I have ever tried (a good thing), and they have a natural amount of bass.

Now, I know I will get a lot of hate from the audiophile community, because of the brand. But I gotta say, for workout headphones, they are REALLY good. They sound amazing, they pair easily, and the unboxing experience was phenomenal (although, it's apple, unboxing is all they can do well....).

One other amazing feature is "fast fuel," apple's way of making sure you never have to go without headphones. While the AirPods have a charging case, these have an (in my opinion) even better feature. With this feature, one can get 2 hours of listening in............ Wait for it...... FIVE MINUTES. Yes, you read that right. Now I know, technologically speaking, this is nothing revolutionary. But fast charging. From APPLE.

One thing I could not take advantage of is the easy pairing with all Apple products. This is simply because I am an Android guy, and the only Apple product I have is a MacBook for work/school. However, that part is exactly like AirPods. Power them on, and hit connect. That's it for pairing.

One complaint I have is that I cannot see battery life on Android. The only reason this is excusable is because if they do die, I can charge for 5 mins and get them back up and running again.

The final point that, to be honest, was my original selling point for these headphones, is noise isolation/cancellation. With these on and playing music, I could not hear the vacuum I was using. Or the treadmill. Or the 30+ other treadmills being used around me at the gym. It's incredible. I also tested with someone else in a quiet room to see if they could hear my music. At maximum volume, with minimal background noise, with my head touching theirs at the ears, they could hear nothing. This gives me the confidence to listen wherever I want. I know I won't be bothering anyone.

Honestly, I thought I was paying an Apple tax for these before I bought them. But I was not. They are easily the best in-ears I have ever seen or used, and I would recommend slapping down $150USD as soon as you can for these.

P.S. I'm on mobile so please point out any spelling/grammar errors.

Edit: evidentially people want to hear about sound quality and a comparison between other IEMs I have used. I have used Bose SoundSports, Ear pods, AirPods, Power beats 2 wireless (extensively), and your typical skull candy's (please don't flame, I was like 7).

Here are the reasons for switching off of each of these, and how the BeatsX do better.

Bose SoundSport: admittedly, they were really good, but wired was a turnoff. They were also stolen from me, so I was forced to replace them.

Earpods: they don't fit in my ears very well, also not wireless.

AirPods: OK I admit, I don't own these. I used a friend's pair extensively, and they were really good. However, sound isolation and noise cancelling are paramount to me, so these weren't for me.

Power beats 2 wireless: I used these for 1.5ish Years. I HATE the over ear loop thing, but it is not removeable. They also cut out a lot. In addition, everyone around me could hear my music. And I could hear them.

Skull candy's: same reason every one else hates them, they broke on me, and sound quality sucks. But for $15, what do you expect?

As far as sound quality, I think Austin Evans said it best (I don't think I can link, wouldn't that be against the rules?). Usually with beats, highs and lows overpower the mids. With there, this is still true, but to a much lesser extent.

Alright, going off this point. Have you tried any of the Jaybirds? I'd like to know how the sound and mic quality compares.

Can you provide any comparisons to other headphones that you've tried and your impressions of how their sound compares?

I have tried jaybirds once, but that annoying charging thing turned me off. I can't use anyone else's cable unless they have the same headphones.

Your first time using in ears?

I got an even better set that never needs charging and pairing, and can benefit from external DACs.

I added an edit at the end that answers all your questions. If you want more detail just ask :)

Well, it doesn't surprise me at all that Beats can make a good set of earphones.

Beats really stepped up their game since the Beats Solo 3 last year. Even audiophiles like Innerfidelity appreciated the sound quality.

So you can expect quality stuff from Beats but the prices are still high compared to the competition. Especially now, since you can buy a Sennheiser Urbanite around $80 or a JBL S300 for $40. Both sound comparable to the Solo 3...with even better build quality. That said, there aren't many attractive wireless earbuds out there and it looks like Beats wants to dominate that market...convincingly.
