Linux on Chromebook for PC gaming

Is there any risk to it? How long does linux take to boot? Can I get chromeOS back if I want? And how much fps should I expect to get in light games like csgo, tf2, gmod, etc (even if it has to be on low to medium settings)

Well lets cover some basic things. Is the chromebook running an ARM CPU? If it is running X86 then you are good to go. Second linux doesn't have nearly the same game support as windows or MacOS. Thirdly can it even run games. Fourth if you still want to do it go into dev mode, install crouton, then the linux of your choice. You will then launch it from the terminal windows and you can swap back and fourth between each OS. You can also make a chrome recovery disk for a backup.

Just keeping this here as a I know someone with the same chromebook got around 20-25 fps on csgo at medium settings, so at low it might get around 30 which I'm fine with (its really just to play games at school until I can get a windows laptop)

It's an ARM CPU don't bother. We had X86 chromebooks and we could play minecraft at 60FPS low settings

Do you have a general idea of what laptop you're gonna get specifically?

 

Most Chromebooks have shit tier Celeron processors that have gaming capabilities limited to coolmathgames, not to mention your performance is already going to be worse by running linux. I would recommend just holding out a little bit longer and getting a windows based PC with at the very least a mid tier i3/i5 processor.

I have an asus c201 4gb ram version (I got it at the beginning of the school year for school) it has a rockchip with 4 cores
