Help with gaming Laptop

This is very similar to the Clevo P870DM3

I want to know the battery life(both load and idle) of this configuration

  • At Sli
  • One gpu disabled
  • If possible both gpu disabled (integrated graphic cards running the system)

Nevermind the price tag

I would use it for the next 5-6 years

I don't want a PC BUILD

5). Their global warranty is it reliable?

This would be my first Gaming device so I'd want it to be perfect

turning SLI on and off doesn't impact battery life that I have ever found. The GPUs still are powered on. Just keeping em at idle is best, and less hassle.

What is "load"?

1.5-2 hours, maybe 2.5 hours if you're lucky and set the machine well. For some odd reason my 7700K won't downclock at all, so I can't properly test that for you even if i wanted to.

Having a HDD installed and active will hurt battery life a bit more than a full SSD system.

You say price is not a factor? Then I'll fix your config:

  • 960 Pro for OS drive over 960 EVO (MLC is best).
  • Manually take the 850 EVO drive for your 1TB (unless you can afford the 960 EVO). Don't use the HID approved. The 3D V-NAND is worth it, I can't guarantee you'll get 3D V-NAND from their approved drives.
  • Why are you getting a second NVMe drive? Especially one that isn't known?
  • 2TB 5400 RPM drives are very slow, they're only for storing large amounts of static files (like movies or pictures or videos). Do not use for games. They also will hurt your battery life.
  • Message them and ask for G.Skill 3000MHz instead of 2800MHz. It'll cost a little more.
  • Get a 3 year international warranty if not in the US. If in the US, get a normal 3 year warranty. You want it.
  • Get the 8265ac wifi card instead of the killer. Also ask if they can install the bare drivers via device manager instead of the Pro/Set Wireless combination.
  • Get the 780W PSU from them. It's worth it. You want it. I'm guaranteeing you that you want it.
  • Forget the cooling pad, buy and modify a Notepal U3 if you want one
  • Forget the backpack, buy (or select if they offer) an Everki Titan if you need one.
  • Tell them, specifically, to only install Clevo Control Center *WITHOUT* XTU. You and your fans will thank me later.

And that is that!

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

I meant that for the people who would say to buy a better configuration as a pc build

Price is a factor

Max price- 7500$(up or down a 100$)

Price is made up of-

  • In this import+duty costs in India approx-1000$
  • Shipping-300$
  • Rest is for the laptop

In 1st ssd slot 250 gigs for purely O.S

2nd ssd slot + 3rd ssd(is just for filling this slot)+1tb shdd OR 1TB 7200rpm( for gaming or for running the programming environment)

Last 2tb hdd for purely tv shows movies, multimedia stuff

I would buy a mousepad+corsair m65 mouse or something better at that rate only

Now the questions based upon above quote-

1).  3 year warranty isn't that a bit too long

2). How much a 200mhz frequency boost affect the R.A.M.

4k screen with gsync OR 1440p(3k) with gsync

Screen calibration necessary?

Still a few things that need changing.

Get the GSkill 2x16gb 3200mhz.

Do you really need the 512 HID approved drive?

Get the new huge power adapter 780w one instead.

Get rid of the EVOC logo.

Can I exchange the original power brick in exchange for the 780w?(by paying somewhat extra like 100-150$?

Evoc logo unbranding can be done

Why a 3000 or a 3200mhz ram compared to 2800?(just asking)

For the hid drive its just for filling the empty 3rd slot(960 evo would cost higher than the budget for the 3rd slot)

A question:

Should i get the sillicon lottery or the normal delidded version?

After further review on the net i found that hid approved 512gb is actually

PM951:

512GB Samsung PM951, M.2 (22x80) PCIe 3.0 (x4) NVMe SSD, NAND Flash, Read 1050MB/s, Write 560MB/s, 250k/114k IOPS, OEM

Nah. 2800MHz is aids. 18-18-18-43. Might as well grab 2400MHz 14-14-14-34.

You have to try booting with one stick then shut down then two sticks then you can boot with 4. It's... meh. I don't blame them for it, though I'm certain you could get it working. It's just a real pain. Take 2400MHz in this case. You also need Prema mod to get it properly stable so since KM1 doesn't have one just yet, it makes sense.

You should find out if they can ship to India without such a huge import cost. They often have ways to ship to Europe and Asia without hurting importers heavily.

Yes, make the SSD a 960 Pro if you can.

Don't bother "just" filling out the slot if you do not need to. Save yourself some $$. As for the "HID approved", I did not mention anything related to speed of the drive. I mentioned this because I rather you get 3D V-NAND as your drives will last longest and take the most hammering when like that. Since you want the machine to last like 6 years and all... (which I still consider unrealistic).

Warranty isn't too long for what you're wanting the PC to last. If anything is failing around the 3 year mark it's good time to get things freshly replaced.

I think the 3K screen is the better option for a gamer, but it isn't a great screen.

The RAM thing is more than just the speed, see my statement above.

I'd take the screen calibration if you could afford it.

You may need to buy the 780W separately: http://www.hidevolution.com/780w-laptop-power-adapter-for-evoc-p775dmx-p870dmx-msi-gt-models.html

Don't bother with the silicon lottery chip. The standard one is fine. It comes delidded at 4.7GHz anyway, you can tune it to 4.8 or even 5GHz if you want (and heat permits).

I wouldn't bother with the PM951 unless you REALLY want NVMe for it.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Created ticket for it

They just changed the almost 50% lineup of their site(eg.- there's no 500gb 960 pro now)

Btw

If I would've gone for 4k screen+ g-sync then what would i have missed or got better thing( I meant in the sense of colour accuracy)i know fluidity-1440p (textures)-4k

But how would a 1080p hevc video look like in both the panels?

It might be... I know it is for the DM3 model, but not the KM1 model. Maybe it is, I don't know.

I don't understand your question about the screens.

Why don't you put the 960 Pro in the slot that only supports NVMe and put two 1TB 850 EVOs in the slots that support SATA? 960 EVOs are just needlessly more expensive for the most part if you're just tossing games on them, etc.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

That type costs almost 300$(5.5 TB) more (if i would get somewhat rebate upon import duty i would certainly do this).(i honestly think that 4.5 TB would be enough as it is)

One or more questions:

Would HID put a raid 0 on the 960 evo(not pro) upon the above build

And do the Promo Code option really work on their site as i have not seen a single type of promo code for the HID

Can they change the colour of the lid?(white looks awesome on origin pc(only for the white colour))

I see where you're coming from. Might as well just take one 960 Pro and one 1TB 850 EVO, then. Honestly.

They can raid the evos, but I don't see why you would want to. There is little point to doing it; your bandwidth limit hits fast and your 4K QD1 read/write doesn't change at all, so for normal operation there'll be no speed difference.

You need to contact them for the code but it's a code for notebookreview members that are active.

Call HID and speak to Donald and ask them for the code to put in on an order.

If you feel like showing appreciation, you can send something my way =D

Colour accuracy on the 1440p is about 55% Adobe RGB and 85% sRGB. 4K panel is 88% Adobe RGB and 100%+ sRGB, but you can calibrate the panel to get close to 100% Adobe RGB
