NBN CEO Bill Morrow Says "Aussie's Don't need fast Internet"

SammoFS

These are some links to articles talking about it (WARNING some contain swearing (Kotaku))

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2017/02/nbn-ceo-says-aussies-wouldnt-use-superfast-internet-even-if-it-was-free/

http://www.news.com.au/technology/online/nbn/australians-are-not-ready-for-superfast-broadband-nbn-chief-says/news-story/2271ef7a1b9095ba21fe154a1bb0eb21

Personally. Because of this. LOTS Of Australian's Including myself are RAGING MAD.

Most of australia is still stuck on ADSL2+ with under 20mbps. me myself on 4mbps on ADSL2+ (At my Step-Dads house, Cable with Optus on 30down and 2 up)

People even saying "NBN Has to have a chat with ChorusNZ" (Chorus Rolling out Ultra Fast Broadband in NZ, passing australia in akamai rankings.)

I WAS going to get Hybrid Fibre-CoAxial but. The Optus HFC network was deemed "Too old" Now 700 thousand people will be on Fibre-To-The-Distribution-point instead.

(I'm not sure if I'm getting that.)

Ever since the Coalition (Liberal) Party went into action. They changed the nbn up to MTM (Multi Technology Mix) Containing:

Fixed Wireless

Satellite (which we apparently lead in now.)

FTTP

FTTN

FTTdp

HFC (Maybe)

Back in 2009 when nbn was started by the Labour party (Labor party for all you americans that don't use u in these type of words) We were originally going to get a full FTTP rollout Eventually offering 1 GBPS speeds (I Believe.) then the Coalition (Liberal) Scrapped it.

I'll stop by "half" rant here.

He claims that 'Australians do not want super-fast broadband and would not use it “even if we offered it for free”'.

This prick gets paid $3 million a year and says stupid shit like this. As an Australian, I want super fast broadband with no caps. It'd be nice if they offered it for free but we know that will never ever happen.

Didn't have a choice. Uses to be on coaxial with Optus (best thing eva) but about a year ago I moved house to an area that only had an ADSL Telstra exhange, and Telstra's line rent quota (as in, how many adsl lines they let other ISPs rent) was maxed, so Telstra was literally my only choice.

Not true Skymesh does 200/200 and NBNco has been selling 1gbps since 2013 just no isp can afford to offer it to consumers.

I've already signed my town up for my republics gigatown that they are making now as a response to this delusional bs.

Well obviously. It was just recently announced. Changes like that don't happen over night, nor do they happen in a matter of months. However the fact that they've dedicated almost a billion dollars to make it happen shows their commitment.

I was actually having a chat to my partner regarding this and Morrow is right. NBNCo class Superfast Internet as gigabit. What he states is that even if it were free, the majority of Australia would not utilize gigabit infrastructure at this stage. For the vast majority of users in Australia, they don't consume high amounts of bandwidth. Sure everyone might sign up to Gigabit internet but you'll only find a small fraction of that user base utilizing the full gigabit bandwidth of that infrastructure.

Having said that, 100mbit NBN needs much much wider availability and ISP's need to start offering 200+ mbit plans at affordable prices.

queensland times (I think thats the name) Said it was reasonable on what he said. max 400mbps would suite australia. or 300mbps.

The Canadian dream invading Australian government, give 'just enough'. I don't really understand that thinking, most people don't use the 4x4 vehicles they buy (alright maybe more in Australia) but car manufacturers don't say they only build 2 wheel drive because few people go offroad where it's necessary.

It sounds to me like what some American cell companies say, "most people use less than 5GB data." Well most people use less than 5GB because we're worried about getting charged for going over. I know if I had no limit I would go way over 5GB because I'd update that phone game through 4G and watch those snapchats when not connected to WiFi
