Every New CPU Kills Ram In 4th Slot? HELP

DisconnectedYT

Every time used to reseat my old intel Pentium it would kill the ram stick in the last slot on my motherboard, and today i replace that pentium with a Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 and yet it still happend AGAIN. What is going on?

If even when i reseat the CPU it does it then something major must be wrong!

The RAM is some cheap Kingston KVR 2GB 1333Mhz and i have 4 of them.

Are you sure it isn't the motherboard....

if I remember, the memory controllers back then were not on the CPU, but on the motherboard itself. Sounds like you may have a bad board.

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 is Haswell, and it definitely has an IMC. I'm not completely certain when they started, but I know Intel has been using on-die memory controllers since at least Bloomfield (i7-9xx). I still agree it looks like the motherboard is at fault one way or another, though.

My mobo is a $200 MSI Z97 Gaming 3 and i never did anything that should have killed it?

It could just be defective or failing without you being directly at fault. It happens sometimes. Assuming it's still under warranty, I think you should e-mail MSI support about this, and see about an RMA.

electrical problems just happen sometimes. maybe you have a weird bios setting too. did you try clearing the cmos? flashing bios? if not make sure theres no metal shorting the board on the back or anything.

I just saw him say old Pentium, so thought he may have been talking pre "core" days, not his rig in his sig.
