How many watts power supply do i need?

Go to solution Solved by WMGroomAK,

At load you are probably using less than 300 Watts, however I would probably go for a good quality 500 to 600 Watt PSU that you can re-use when you upgrade to something more powerful.

Please tell what information i have to give on forums  for choosing how much power supply do i need for my PC.

Look at the spec sheets for all your parts add all the wattage together then add a bit more for expansion.

a rough rule of thumb i use is to piece out the build on pcpartpicker and to add 20% of headroom on top of what it spits out.

the spec sheet of parts usually grossly exaggerates the required wattage, because they dont want to be to blame for a cheap power supply going up in flames because it was pinned at 100%

Guru3D reviews for how much your GPU uses (not OC'd). Their older reviews also give a whole "TDP" of a system that includes a heavily OC'd 3960X so you can guess how much power your CPU will need as well, but that's for older reviews. Generally they'll have articles about power consumption for the CPU and GPU you have and those are what I put together, add about 150W for OC and settle.

Hey i brought Biostar h55 hd motherboard(link mentioned below) from ebay some years ago.The power supply which i brought with this motherboard blown up.Off course that's because of my pc components were consuming more power so the power supply thought of commiting suicide by blowing up.Hahahaha:-)

Conclusion -Please suggest how much watt power supply do i need for my motherboard.

Thanks in advance :-)

The motherboard consumes very little power. We'd need to know the specs of the rest of the system to be able to tell you what wattage you need.

Youre issue with gaming isnt your PSU, its your Graphics Card dude

an 8 year old card without direct x11 support most likely wont even run minecraft

Well hopefully you get a better GPU before you actually try to do that...
