My Corsair 350D Build

DivineEquinox

Hi guys,

This will be my first build log over here on the LTT forums. I had planned this build in the discussion section (
http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/63517-gaming-build-for-1700/ ) and now this build is complete with minor adjustments as i had a slightly bigger budget which expanded to around $1800 AUD

Here are the parts
Case: Corsair Obsidian 350D
CPU: Intel i5 4670K Overclocked to 4.4Ghz
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i
Video Card: Sapphire AMD R9 280X Vapor-X 3GB
EVGA Nvidia GTX 780ti
Motherboard: ASRock Z87M OC Formula
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 @ 1600MHz
OS Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SDD
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB

Storage: WD Blue 500GB (later addition, salvaged from an old computer, not in the photos)
PSU: Seasonic G-series 550W 80+ Gold Corsair RM650

Extras:
NZXT
Sleeved LED Kit 200cm BLUE
3x GELID Silent Slim 12 120mm PWM Fans with Blue LED

Some pictures were taken during the building process, others were taken while i was setting the computer up in my room. And here's the PC:

Cable Management at the back could have been better but there's no hump when closing the side panel, so that's fine with me.

Almost finished with the building process, just gotta fix the LED lighting strips and plug in the rest of the modular cables to the PSU

Day Shots of the PC, with some of the blinds down in the room but had the light turned on.

Complete build, with all LED lights turned off except for the Corsair logo on the H100i and no window side panel on yet.

Complete build with all LED lights on and no window side panel

Some final overall shots of my PC showing the front and windowed side, sorry for the bad image quality.

All pictures were taken with a HTC One which explains some of the pictures and their quality.

I want to thank all those who provided suggestions, information and help to me in my planning thread and i hope you enjoy my somewhat of a "Build Log" of my new PC.

Thanks for reading/viewing this. :)

This build has been updated since i built it. I wanted some of the Yellow/Gold from the Motherboard to be visible, overall it looks like a more mature build compared to before with all the blue LED lights everywhere, it is now more refined.

- Replaced the two front intake fans with 2x 120mm Corsair SP120 PE Fans
- Replaced the back Gelid Silent 120mm fan with a Gelid Wing 12PL
- Added a old HDD (WD Blue 500GB)
- Added a new SSD purely for games (256GB Plextor M5s)
- sleeved cables (Black Bitfenix cables)  for the motherboard main power and CPU supplemental power
- New lighting system:
   - Moved the blue LED lights to under and outlining the motherboard, the LED lights and sleeve cables are basically wedged between the motherboard and the motherboard tray to give a blue under glow effect. (NZXT Lighting kit, removed the PCI bracket on the control module and stuck it on the back of the motherboard tray)
   - Added 2x Bitfenix Alchemy white 30cm LED Strips to the top and bottom
- Added sound/vibration dampening foam to the side panels.

Here's a random crappy picture i took to give just a rough new view on the computer, sorry for the bad lighting and focus -> Ipod touch 5th gen camera.

UPDATE #2

Its been a while since i got the system and built it, that + finding some new parts for a good deal = UPGRADE TIME
- GONE is the Sapphire AMD R9 280X Vapor-X 3GB, REPLACED with a EVGA Nvidia GTX 780ti (reference design)
- GONE is the Seasonic G-550W, REPLACED with a Corsair RM650
- Removed the 500GB WB Blue because it died, finally after like 8 years.
- Completely removed the blue lights in my system (still have the white Bitfenix strips), decided to with a cleaner build to highlight the gold/yellow of the motherboard.
- New H100i, Old one went faulty, pump wasnt working correctly.

And here's the usual crappy picture:

Unless you're planning to SLI, isn't a 750w PSU a bit much here?

AMD 8350 // 8 GB Corsair Ram // PNY 780 Ti // Asus 1080p Monitor // Antec 120mm AIO // CM Quickfire TK w/ Custom Caps  // RAT 5 mouse // Audio Technica m50x // Behringer 4-line + Line6 8-line Audio Interfaces

Just make sure you plug in your CPU power before installing your H100i. I have the Maximus V Gene with the 350D and I had to take out my H100i after installing it to get the CPU power plugged in.

Been 2 Months since i've finished this build, no problems what so ever, runs all modern games on High-Ultra without any major hiccups. I would recommend getting a filter kit for the top and back exhaust just to prevent dust and what not, and getting static pressure fans for the front if you intend to put 2x 120mm front fans and keeping those HDD/SSD cages for more/better airflow to your GPU.

There seems to be nothing wrong with these parts for your build IMO. If you think the PSU is a bit too much, watch Linus' $2000 ultimate build guide where he used the same PSU as me with a i7 4770K and GTX 780 and the PC was fine.

Just make sure you plug in your CPU power before installing your H100i. I have the Maximus V Gene with the 350D and I had to take out my H100i after installing it to get the CPU power plugged in.

VERY TRUE unless you install the fans on the bottom facing the motherboard. I've switched mine around since the build to change my airflow (front 2x 120mm for intake, back 120mm for intake, Corsair h100i fans for exhaust) which meant i had to flip my H100i fans so it would pull air from the radiator and out the case, the CPU power was definitely hard to squeeze in after putting the radiator in again.
