I heard you like RGB kid, because Thermaltake just added an RGB PSU to their lineup.

Everyone likes those flashy lights that can change color right? We all want RGB graphics cards, RGB CPU coolers, RGB fans, and even RGB lights that make your water cooling look sick. But is an RGB power supply too far?

 

Thermaltake decided no, but I think it's stupid. Why? Most decent cases these days have a power supply shroud. You won't be able to see the flashy lights anyways. And if you don't have one, those ugly stickers on the side are gonna be too big of a price to pay compared to the RGB lighting you get from the fan on the power supply. 

 

The RGB craze is real, but I think Thermaltake has gone too far this time. What do you guys think?

 

EDIT: Credit to @njmyers3. Most likely, the fan will be facing down anyways, so even without a shroud you probably won't see the RGB!!!

 

Well you'll get RGB lights on your floor or desk, but...

This time? The craze has gone too far long time ago. Not to mention RGB SSDs. Soon we'll have RGB monitors, mark my words (unless I missed those).

Soon we'll have RGB CPUs. Who cares if they're covered up by AIOs.

 

And then we'll find some way to make the transistors flash in CPU and GPU dies whenever they switch. WHO CARES IF YOU CAN'T SEE THE TRANSISTORS.

These are for show rigs. Where the PSU fan would be on display.

This is not new? This thing was known for a while, no.

I agreed, PSU shrouds make this basically useless.  But even if you don't have a shroud most cases support the PSU with fan side down so you won't even get to see the RGB leds unless you purposely have the fan facing upward.

That is a ridiculously niche market. They should work on making regular PSUs people would actually want to buy. EVGA has the market cornered right now.

If you turn on the RGB, it'll automatically overclock your GPU and CPU to over 9000 MHz and as an added bonus your FPS will double!!!

Mainly to satisfy the kids with the tempered glass cases and a billion lights going on. 

 

Nearly every PSU out there is the same really. Just warranty and which ones explode less is all people really care about.

True but through the grill on the PSU, the grill on the case and (hopefully) a fan filter I doubt much light will be coming through to make a statement.  Also, that "statement" will only be a small section of the bottom of your case, makes much more sense to just stick RGB strips to the underside of a case.
