SSD vs CPU in Game Load Times

Does anyone have any recent sources which would illustrate the impact of different SSDs vs the impact if different CPUs on game load times?

 

I recently saw a video showing a 960pro (m.2) having almost no impact over a standard SATA6 SSD.

 

Would love to see the impact of a few recent CPU's and maybe even OC'ed vs Stock speeds....

Some games will show no improvement with SSD's over HDD's. The ones that usually do are RPG's with vast overworlds, such as Elder Scrolls, Witcher, etc., and adventure games. Games like CoD and CS:GO will barely benefit as the data goes straight to RAM.

Well, as far as CPU goes, i dont think the improvement would be too noticeable, unless youd be comparing some seriously low end vs a high end cpu. Maybe even if you compared a stock speeds vs a well overclocked one, but even then, if its not a bottlenecking factor, i dont believe CPU will have a dramatic effect on anything other than performance, in non-cinematic scenes that is xD.

This is, in part, my question. If you take something like a 2600K which has a base of 3.8 and OC it to 4.5. I'm wondering how much of an improvement on load times would you see. Here we are talking about roughly a 20% improvement on clock speeds alone. So when we throw in 3930 , 4790 ...etc and the increases in instructions per clock they have I wonder the impact.

 

I think LTT did a video a couple years ago that even RAMDisk had almost 0 impact as well on load times.

None. Load times are generally slowed due to storage speed.

They used poor methodology on that video.

I tried running Doom (the new one) on mechanical drive. It was so slow I thought my system had locked up..

CPU's AFAIK have 0 impact on loading times unless its decoding/uncompressing files which I think isn't a common scenario. Most of the time loading levels/maps comes from the storage drive or RAM. The thing is if it's on the RAM it's so fast you probably wouldn't mind or even notice.

 

For example, when starting a game of League of Legends, there's a loading screen where all the player load before the game starts. A lot of times people load very slowly and that's because the game is installed on a slow hard drive and take a while to load the map and assets.

WoW, MapleStory (though also limited by network speed), and many more MMORPG's.
