Gender locking in MMO games

Tera, for the past year or so, has only been releasing gender-locked female classes only. The new class coming out will be another female gender locked class. In-game equipment is specifically created for females character, but males are require to wear it anyways. If this wasn't bad enough, majority of the community think it's "okay," and argues that men like boobs anyways. Honestly, I find this really disturbing. Not all males are created the same, and not all males are addicted to porn, or even like it. And why go as far to lock if not all, almost all of their characters to be females only? I bet if the opposite was to hold true, if the game locked all male characters, Tera would be facing some serious pressure by the media, communities, and other sorts of groups. But yet the male community in this generation, are just silent.

 

There's an argument that says, for the pass decade or so, males has always been the preferred choice in any game. I find this also disturbing. Just because someone prefer the color blue, are you going to get offended because that's what he wants to use instead of red... Then there's talk that female locked classes are justified because women had to endure this while playing male gender locked classes. But I haven't to find any game that was created out of sexism or hate towards any individual group. What game was created and locked their male characters because they didn't appreciate females? That is total BS. All of this females deserves better rights, females need to be in all main story line or the main protagonist. Females this, females that... It's really getting out of hand. And IF it was true that males did play a better role in any giving games (notice I said if, because I don't think it was true,) that doesn't give females the right to treat the other gender the same by forcing all males to play female locked classes wearing thongs.

 

This is literally what is happening in our generation. Remember Overwatch? Yea, they got hell by the LGBT community because they didn't announce a gay character in their video game. They were literally pressured to create a lore for one, and if I remember correctly, they gave hints that Hanzo might be gay all because they got pressured. This is utterly ridiculously stupid. Stop trying to force people to fit your own agenda and what you believe. Not everyone agrees to your beliefs, and not everyone wants to be part of it. And if you're going to force a game we play to fit your agenda, you're literally ruining it for the rest of us who just wants to play the game without any outside agendas, seriously.

Maybe it's because I enjoy that specific MMO. Why don't you move out your house if you don't like your wife? Go get another wife. Maybe men, actually people are silent on the matter because they have more important things to worry about than character options in a game.

 

I also don't really understand this, seems contradictory. It seems at first you're upset about inequality in video games then you go on to say stop forcing gender equality agendas? Maybe I'm misunderstanding the initial complaint.

 

I agree with the latter part of your post. They're games not reality and I can't stand when people bring politics into gaming. Video games are also an artistic representation, which should also not be hindered by political views.

1. Politely request more male classes - ideally via Twitter or other social media that the devs will actually be able to see, or

2. Stop playing the game, because your vision and the devs vision differ.

This is somewhat of a good point, but also kind of construed. I believe that video games had much more leeway in the past, but I do not believe that this is due to the so-called "fem generation" mentioned. As video games gain popularity, they will face scrutiny as they will have more people to judge them. Games like this versus something like Overwatch will have a very different set of people judging what is right and wrong. In the case of Overwatch, many younger children play it due to the fact that it is an FPS that is only rated "TEEN" by ESRB. This means that it is much more likely for a parent to complain about things versus a MMO that only has around 1/4 of the player base (avg. unique logins per hour) and has a "MATURE" ESRB rating. The reason that adding gay characters to games has not become commonplace is because of differing international laws regarding homosexuality. Many games are banned from sale, and sometimes even have laws made regarding the ownership of the game due to these  laws. This can effect the market for a game extremely negatively, and so many developers choose to take a safe route and steer clear of any content that may be viewed as non-traditional.

 

Full disclaimer, my personal beliefs are that devs. should be raising the topic of non-traditional relationships in games, and that in this instance the game sounds like it needs some changes. Above is only my offered possible reasoning for why the game is in its current form.

I don't even think I can like this any more than I already can.

I don't see a need for any real diverse characters if it adds nothing, especially in a game like Overwatch.

Wait, what? Last time I checked (used to play Tera a lot), male characters could not equip the female-only equipment (which were just cosmetic stuff, like dresses, swimsuits and so on).

Well they have a point... Tera is like 80% female characters, even with the classes that can be male or female (the remaining 20% are the castanic males which looks like homosexual super models).

Well, there are 8 male/female classes, and 4 female only. Out of the 4 female only classes, two are female-only because they are Elin only (Elin is a race which is female-only).

 

 

 

I think it has to do with development cost. All these new classes have unique equipment and abilities. Creating new animations and equipment models for Elins-only is far easier than having to create animations and equipment models for not only 7 different races, but also separate ones for males and females (which would end up at 12 different animation sets and 12 different equipment models).

Bluehole is not exactly a large developer so I think it is understandable that they would look at which races would appeal to the largest amount of players (Elins are by far the most popular race), and which one would give them the least amount of work to do.

It's not a bad idea to have a LGBT character but what is bad is forcing it to make themselves feel better.

I think op may have meant that since the equipment is for female characters only that if males want to use it they are forced to play as a female character.

I actually like the idea of gender specific gear/skills in the form you have race specific stuff as well in games, but it should be balanced and not biased towards a specific side.

This is an idiotic post. Who the hell are you to judge and tell me what I wanted? Maybe you haven't read the entirety of the post, but it had nothing to do with asking the devs to create more males. It has nothing to do with asking the devs to do anything. Matter of fact, I just want people to leave them alone and quit forcing agendas on creativity. If the devs want to use blue, let him use blue. Why try to stop him and make him use red instead?

It's not a bad idea to have a LGBT character but what is bad is forcing it to make themselves feel better.  

The trendies in that group get the idea that they're owed everything. Their parents never told them no when they were kids, and in fact the parents probably perpetuated that the child should always get what they want. When they went to college (paid for by taxpayers or rich parents), these nutty professors who shouldn't even be allowed to teach anything will instill in these kids the most absurd ideologies. Then when these people go out in the world, it literally triggers them because the world doesn't work like they were taught.

 

This is why we can't have nice things.

No, you're not informing anyone. You are just having a hissyfit over the fact that a game doesn't conform to you views. There is quite a large difference between informing and simply just complaining, which by the way is what you are doing.
