more than 1/4 of a million people (285000 phones are still unaccounted for) in the US still haven't returned their Galaxy Note 7 after the last government sanctioned recall

 

U.S. Cellular has sent this message to Note7s in their network:

As of December 15th, Samsung will modify the software to prevent the Galaxy Note 7 from charging. The phone will no longer work.

that will be a very expensive brick

 

people can still return their Note 7 in exchange for a different Samsung phone

 

it is still unclear if this move will be carried out by all US carriers or it's only something US Cellular would do

Samsung has pushed software updates in the past that crippled the Note 7, from 60% battery capacity to locking the phone out of cellular, bluetooth and WiFi radios

So many people are going to be so confused when their phone just stops charging. 

I wonder if that's what happened with my galaxy nexus because it just decided to stop charging. Or it was just a very bad phone.

they had two legal recalls and couple of fires ,, what do you think!?

Yes. It's a design flaw, not so much the battery itself.

My friend still uses his though. He got sent a replacement phone without having to turn in his first phone. So right now he has $150 credit, a Note 7, an S7 Edge, and the Gear 2. If he has to he'll return his current Note 7 for another S7 Edge plus another $150. Definitely got the better end of the deal with this whole mess.

A third party has already broken it down and discovered the cause.

Well in Canada they already updated the phones to disable both cellular,  wifi, and bluetooth radios.

Why though. People have gotten seriously injured and you can't fly with it. Just get something else. The phone isn't so good that is it worth burning your house down your 3rd degree burns on your legs.

Hey, it's your choice if you want to run that risk. And if you do and your phone explodes, you can't go crying at court about how it's Samsung's fault since they already recalled it.

You got ask yourself this, the most important factor of getting a new phone, where is the fun in that?

 

But no seriously I hate Samsung. I used to love them, but now they are just the greedy Apple of android. The whole thing happened because they were trying to make it thinner and lighter. Why? Every enthusiast doesn't want thinner, and most consumers wouldn't notice if there phone is a mm thicker or not. Now the s8 is rumored to remove the headphone jack? What? And besides TouchWiz is an abomination, I can't stand it. I'd get a Pixel XL, OnePlus 3T, Moto Z Force, or HTC 10 if I wanted a high-end phone. My OnePlus 3 is perfect so far.
