Custom resolutions don't show up in game. Any fix?

So I have a 4k TV that can also do 1080p 120hz.  120 Hz doesn't show up by default though, so I go in to Nvidia control panel and hit custom resolution and make it.  Problem is when I go in to a game (tried it on all games i have) it doesn't give me the 120hz option.

I can play 1080p 120hz if my desktop is already set to that resolution before I open the game, but if it's set to 4k60 there is no option in game for 1080p120.  Any way I can fix that?

Thx.

Every game I have.  2k17, dishonored 2, dragon age, rise of the tomb raider and watch dogs are what I have installed right now.

is an example

if u do adjust the edid however it will be available in all games and be careful coz its for poweruser

Like this?  This isn't actually editing my TV though right (dumb question prob).  It's just changing what my computer reads it as? thx

allows custom resolutions to be defined for both AMD/ATI and NVIDIA GPUs by creating EDID overrides directly in the registry without dealing with .inf files.

^ thats pretty much it

Yes, when you plug in the TV for the first time it sends the computer a list of supported resolutions/refresh frequencies. You're just editing that list on the computer to make the option for 1080p 120 Hz appear in your operating system/programs.

Okay thanks.  I added 1080p 120hz and it shows up in game now!  One question though..

  • "Automatic - LCD standard" uses standard timing parameters commonly used with LCD monitors and HDTVs.
  • "Automatic - LCD native" uses standard timing parameters for the native refresh rate. This may help when trying higher refresh rates.

I made it under LCD Native 120hz (it has completely different timing parameters t han the standard function).. was that the correct way to do it?

As long as it's working it's fine :)

You need to enable GPU scaling for custom resolutions if you are running a directx 10+ game, unless the resolution is NATIVE resolution at a different refresh rate.

If you create a custom resolution that is below native resolution, if you created it with an EDID override (E.g. ToastyX Custom resolution utility), then while the resolution itself will show up in a game, that refresh rate may not work; the game will simply ignore it and switch to another refresh rate at the same resolution.  This is because many DX10+ games will ignore display scaled custom resolutions that are below native resolution.  This can be avoided by forcing GPU scaling.

I believe the NVidia control panel only creates GPU scaled resolutions.
