GTX 780 Price - Ever going to drop?

As the title says, are we ever gonna see some serious price drop on the 700 series, so it might match the competition from AMD?

According to my logic, since R9 290x is almost exactly the same as GTX 780 performance wise, the 780 should drop to a price point that is matching the 290x. Right?

Do you think the real prices differences are gonna show when the 780 Ti hits the market?

I doubt any significant price drops but the 780 might come down a bit when the Ti version is released.  It's already a similar price to the 290X, I expect the non-reference 290X cards to be around £500 which is near enough exactly where the 780 sits in pricing.

I wouldn't bet on that .. logic doesn't mean anything when it comes to hardware pricing. The 780 might drop a bit with the 780Ti being released soon, but I really doubt it will drop to like 550$ to compete directly with the 290X. AMD did a very good move with the 290X, it's very cheap for what it is. Nvidia doesn't have the habit of drastically dropping the prices to compete, just look at the 770. A 7970/280X is 300$, yet it performs equally or better in some case than a 770 that is 100$ more expensive.

If the 770 was 350$, I'd consider it, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I won't pay 100$ for 3 FPS. Yet, look at the prices, they're staying steady ..

And the stupid thing is that im seriously considering either 770 or 780 to get the stock cooler. Soooo sexy!

I'm personnally more worried about my framerate in game and the look of my bank account than some GPU through a case window that I will look at maybe twice a day, but that's just me :P

But oh well, it's not as if it costed 1000$ more anyways

Might just depend on sales. If they see their sales drop and AMD is report great 290x sales, then that's the only way I see them doing it.

Thats not stupid, the stock cooler is a great blower style cooling solution. If you need a blower style cooled GPU it is the best around as far as I'm concerned. I'm ordering mine tomorrow.
