Which 1080 to get, and when to buy?

Echodamus

First off, sorry if this question is asked a lot, but I tried to search and could't find anything.

Basically, I want to get a new GPU, and I'm looking at the 1080 because of VR and longevity. So I have a few questions:

Which one should I get? I've heard EVGA has VRM issues (that have supposedly been adress) and I think Gigabyte had BIOS issues so are there any cards to steer clear of or ones that anyone would recommend?

Should I wait to get it with the 1080TI coming? In case of a price drop/maybe I'll want to get that instead.

Lastly my system is somewhat old, I'm rocking an i7 3820 with an EVGA X79 FTW motherboard, so would the be any compatibility issues? Probably not, I just wanted to make sure.

In short, I have at most $1,000 US that I want to spend on a GPU/PSU so I was planning on getting a GTX 1080 with a EVGA Supernova 750W PSU, and I have the concerns listed above. Does everything check out?

Here is a list of common fallacies. Which ones have you used today?

Maybe, it's still unconfirmed but likely coming in January. I'd wait if you have a functional GPU right now

Nah, the problem was just with EVGA FTW cards, and that's been addressed. Get the cheapest EVGA 1080. And it'll work fine in your build. Is that PSU a G2?

Nah, the PSU is some cheap 1000W corsair PSU. The fan has been wonky and revs up to full speed and I just want something 80+ certified and something quieter. And I figured about the EVGA cards, I just wanted to make sure. Thanks for the help!

The thing is I don't need a GPU right now, my 660ti still ticks along, I just need more power for the newer games coming out. So should I wait until CES to buy anything or is it just not worth it?

Don't get a 1000W CPU, they're not worth it. Go with something better like a C650M

Yea, I learned that a while ago, and I'm finally rectifying my mistake. I would go with the CS650M but I need at least 8 SATA power connectors.

Would also go with a EVGA ACX 3.0 cooler. Imo the best for current gen cards, with decent noiselvls while still givng good temps and thus high performance for GPU boost. Could be wortwhile. Asus Strix and  MSI Gaming variants are also good. If you can still run all you need then you are good and can wait.

You  can check the PSU Tier list to see if your type is a good quality PSU. Tier 3 and above is good. For a your build would go with something like 650w max
