That 5k 27 inch seems to be my kind of display. Seriously, 4K at 27 inch looks awesome (pixel density ftw) I can't imagine 5K... Seriously considering getting a second 980ti and going 4k now...

That's an interesting move for Apple.  Even if it is just the monitor it's not going to be an Apple designed monitor with the distinctive look.

The monitors also don't have the same color range, plus the 5k one requires two DP cables to power it.

The likely answer: Apple realized that monitors are increasingly a commodity product like TVs, where it's hard to compete beyond price.  Even an over-the-top display like the UltraFine 5K can only sell for so much.

 

The strategy that works well for PCs and phones (where you can hold firm on the price for a year, sometimes more) doesn't really apply to monitors... people expect those things to be discounted within months.  And that's anathema to a company that prefers to set the same price for everyone and rarely cuts prices at its own stores (Black Friday is usually as good as it gets).

Good point.  By having these made by LG Apple still has good monitors to offer customers who wasn't stand alone monitors but Apple is removed from pricing issues more so than if they made the monitors themselves.

LG certainly makes some pretty good displays, but theyr pricetags and quality dont seem to blow the competition away much either .-.

 

But for Apple devices, they certainly look better than the IMacs in general xD.

Response time isn't a measure of latency/input lag. Even if it was, 14 ms is basically instantaneous from direct human perception.

14 ms is on the higher side as far as response time goes, so it may have some blurriness in high motion situations, but it's not going to add anything to the input lag.
