Not sure how many college student would be able to whip out money for these products, also I know it's probably a joke but noddles isn't exactly tech related.. 

The chrome cast was a good recommendation though imo. 

Video was cool and all, but doubt it's very useful to the majority of college students (especially in America). 

I disliked due to the irrelevance to the reality of college student's budgets.

I'd agree with you more if there weren't a few things you could consider when looking at the video critically.

1) There are college students who could afford these
2) These could easily be on a b-day/x-mas wish list

3) Saving up for these isn't out of the question
4) I live in what you could essentially call a dorm (just not on a school campus) and I found it helpful

5) Do you honestly need to complain about something that's already mentioned as not exactly tech related? Kind of redundant at that point.

Yes, I understand the points you had made are valid, these are possibilities aswell for some students (but not for majority). Only other thing in the list I would feel would be worth saving up for (if I didn't need anything else anyways) would be the headphones but there are options for a lower price.  My points were all opinion based and it would vary from person to person. 

And yeah I do feel like there is a need to point out the noodle thing. The title had said top 5 tech. not top 4 + some food.

Yeah, if you just want to drain the battery on your phone, Chromecast is CRAPTASTIC, you HAVE to have another device to send stuff to it, when for just a few bucks more you could have a Roku or Fire Stick (which supports some casting, like casting Netflix to it) but without the need to use your phone to do anything if you broke your phone or some other crap.

1: Who's phone battery is so bad that they can't Chromecast stuff for an hour or two?

2: Do you actually own a Chromecast? Once you put whatever you want to watch on (ie. movie) you can turn the phone off and the Chromecast does the rest. It's not like the phone needs to be working all the time you're casting.

Be wary about the Chromecast, I bought one for my dorm and the wireless network is encoded with 802.1X and does not support universal plug and play. In other words, it will not allow Chromecast to connect. There is an Ethernet thing you can get for them, but your mileage may vary, as mine still don't work. Be sure to check what your universities wireless network restrictions are before purchasing a chromecast, as most universities do not allow personal wireless access points connected to their network.

I think points 1-3 are pretty apt. It seems like most of the people in the comments on YT are completely ignoring realities outside of their own...

When I was a student, I was in the same boat as most of the commenters. But that didn't mean I couldn't appreciate my neighbor's 55" flatscreen and ballin' speaker setup.

Another solid point, though I'd assume most people would argue that they allocate a much larger portion of the budget to their laptop than something that's slightly less necessary to the college experience like a projector. Though headphones, in my experience, get just about as much use as a PC would..



I'm wondering if it's partially a titling issue. Curious if people would be less "offended" by the recommendations if we titled it something like "Top 5 Awesome Dorm Room Tech for Ballers"

I own an Nvidia Shield TV which supports Google Cast and as such I can cast from apps on my phone to it, when it was working with Playstation Vue and I used it to cast from my phone it drained like 30% off the phone battery in the hour I cast for (this is the same as leaving the screen on watching on the phone, even tho the screen was off), In theory what you say is true, but in practice MANY cast streams require continued access through the original mobile device, only CERTAIN apps cast the way they are supposed to (what you describe in your #2) in my personal experience.

I enjoyed the video. I don't want to sound stuck up but there are things called financial aid that allows the federal government to pay for your college. Not all but with some scholarships thrown in you would only have to pay $2,000-$8,000 per year. Which is a lot less then $30,000-$60,0000. On a side note you could pair the keyboard with a computer connected to the projector with a chromecast while eating ramen using the headphones for a movie.
