Almost all PSU's won't set your house on fire... It's more about what people connect to it. Power rails and such... Bit more info would be nice, so other people can help you a bit more.

Budget? The EVGA 500W B2 is decent for the price. If you want the best though, the EVGA 550W G2 is great!. Ill link the forums PSU tier list, pick somthing off tier one or two.

the other parts I'm using are http://pcpartpicker.com/list/NWmjGf I know that most PSU'S wont set my house on fire but I just want to be sure because I have known of cheap PSU'S to overheat and melt cables. my budget is $2000 USD for the entire build and after everything else I now have about $220 left for a PSU.

You have a K CPU with a B150 motherboard, you need Z170 to overclock. What is this build for? Ill assume its a work station given in Titan X and win pro, but if its for anything else, dont waste money on that. The recommended wattage for a titan X is 600W.

the build is for a friend who is just getting into pc gaming and wanted a good pc and gave me a $2000 budget. he wants to start recording and editing YouTube videos. I plan to keep the motherboard because he doesn't plan on overclocking and I added a power supply. if having the current motherboard will cause any problems other than not overclocking please tell me. thanks.

You need more power than that. Like 650w. Id recommend an EVGA G2/GS/GQ

Why the unlocked i7 6700K if you're not overclocking? Why the old Titan X when a GTX 1070 beats it for a much lower price?

Aside from the i7 6700K being paired with the B150, yes.

It makes no sense. What is your budget? Let's go over the flaws.

CPU with unlocked muktipler (6700*k*) with B150 board (B150 chipset doesn't allow for overclocking)

6700k with a 1070 when an i5 with a 1080 would perform better in pretty much every game in existence.

120GB SSD that costs more than an OCZ Trion 150 which is about as good.

An optical drive

Windows 7 when it's not receiving security updates
