I am using google photo.

However my cellphone is Nexus 6p.

So when I store the photos online, google will compress it to smaller ones.

For example my original photos are most likely to be around 3MB.

After I uploaded it to the cloud, it shrinks to 1.8MB.

Just by looking at the photo I cannot tell a difference.

I'm just curious that what service/software do you guys use to back up your family photos etc.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

2 5TB external Seagate drives that mirror each other daily :)

Can never be too safe with these things....

[I use Google Photos as a backup backup for my S7 Edge only, not everything]

Also in my google photo settings why does it say I have 108GB of storage left???

My google drive only has 7GB of free storage.,..

That's strange.....

Or is it because I purchased a Nexus device, so they gave me more storage just for google photo?????

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

I just copy photos to a hdd twice a year, same with my phone. Don't really like photos on cloud storage, maybe I'm just getting old or something. My google drive on the other hand has a load of my work on it, which is cool to be able to login at work/home/laptop and grab stuff.

The latest Google Photos update includes a some text that describe a very specific benefit for Nexus customers: they will enjoy free unlimited storage for original quality photos and videos uploaded from their Nexus devices.

You think this gonna happen??? If so, when????

Edit: I think 100GB is enough for me to store all my original photos.....

Freenas two 6TB HGST drives in RAID 1. Also accessible by plex for sharing and viewing them.

This is my opinion, it doesn't mean I'm right and is liable to change at any time. I may offend of which I apologize in advance.

Google Photos(For photos I WANT to keep.), Flickr(keep ALL photos including ones deleted, cause free 1tb storage...), then to a external HDD once a month. (Pretty much everything, or anything I want to backup.)

Also note I don't take pictures too often.

throw it onto a hdd in your computer and if you have another machine lying around have it backup to that one to evey once in awhile. You can set up a rsync or you can use sync toy from microsoft to connect to the other computer from a network share and basically sync the contents in one folder to the next.

This is my opinion, it doesn't mean I'm right and is liable to change at any time. I may offend of which I apologize in advance.

also if you have two hdd's in your computer you can always use sync toy again to just keep folders on the different drives the same so that you have redundancy and don't have to use two computers. Its the same security as my other suggestion just without the network share hassle.

I use Macruim Reflect to image/duplicate one of my drive to another empty drive. Most of the files are downloaded movies and twitch.tv archive.

Thanks for the help!

I have a 3.5" USB drive backing up the stuff I want to save. It's run by Genie Timeline and it's all automatic/automated.  I have another smaller capacity 2.5" USB drive that I use for manual copy/paste of just my pictures folder.  I leave it unplugged normally and do that backup whenever I unload my iPhone camera roll to the computer.  I've got 15,000ish photos going back many, many years... don't wanna lose them.

My son's computer has a large internal 3.5" drive doing the same thing also with Genie Timeline. He doesn't have much critical data though. Mostly game saves that aren't supported by Steam cloud. Some pictures n' stuff, but not a lot.

iPhone, iCloud and iTunes.  Everything else?  To my 2TB portable hard drive.

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

Stuff I take with my phone (Also a 6p!) that I don't care about quality on goes into Google Photos, unless I really care about them then they go onto HDDs as well along with all my DSLR photos.
