Southwest Airlines flight 944 from Louisville to Baltimore was evacuated this morning while still at the gate because of a smoking Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. All passengers and crew exited the plane via the main cabin door and no injuries were reported, a Southwest Airlines spokesperson told The Verge.

More worryingly, the phone in question was a replacement Galaxy Note 7, one that was deemed to be safe by Samsung. The Verge spoke to Brian Green, owner of the Note 7, on the phone earlier today and he confirmed that he had picked up the new phone at an AT&T store on September 21st. A photograph of the box shows the black square symbol that indicates a replacement Note 7 and Green said it had a green battery icon. He also said the phone was at around 80 percent of battery capacity when the incident occurred and that he only used a wireless charger since receiving the device.

I think Samsung needs to cut their losses and drop the Note 7.

Windows 8? Windows 10 at least has the option to stop MS from spying on you.

Windows 10 was a clusterfuck of nope when it launched. Doesn't help where I had to turn down the upgrade dozens of times on my grandma's PC, and it still fucking installed. And when it installed, it happily fucked 90% of her programs in the ass.

The whole Windows 10 debacle damaged Microsoft's reputation among consumers, sure. But, I'd rather have Windows 10 break my computer than have a Galaxy Note 7 burn down my house.

As much as we all love computers here, they are easily replaceable. A home, meanwhile, is not.

Ah, while that's true, here's the kick to the balls: Microsoft rolls this steaming pile of barely-beta status shit out on millions of customers without their explicit consent. At least with the Note 7 you could have a say in actually buying the bloody thing.

True, true.

Either way the GN7 will be remembered as the most disastrous launch of anything tech of the 2010s. That's kinda sad, if you ask me, because it won't be remembered as a solid, premium phone, but rather that phone that catches fire and destroys property.

Nobody will buy this soon. This could bring the whole company down with lawsuits together with unsold phones.

If it ain´t broke don't try to break it.

Have any of these devices truly burst into flames or is it just exaggerated?  I mean I get all excited to see a picture of a note 7 actually aflame and I'm let down every time.

Windows 10 wasn't that bad....

Xbox One, Note 7, Apple Pippin, and Blackberry Priv were far worse.
