What I changed

- more reliable HDD
- better value GPU
- SLI-capable board
- VASTLY superior PSU
- better case
- locked CPU (that is yours to decide if you want to spend extra for a 6700K rather than a 6700)

EDIT: Get a decent air-cooler for 20 quid - 212 EVO or Arctic Freezer 13

Noisy - and questionable durability - WD Red are absurdly robust - I've semi-dropped mine and it didn't even notice it.

my family's toshiba 1tb is working well for years(not sure if its been replaced,if not then its working for 6 years without an issue) doesn't make any sound when plugged in. could have just as likely been a bad unit than an issue across the entire lineup.

I mean it works (the one I have in my lappy) fine but it's noisier than the WD Blue drive a friend has in his Y50. It's definitely a thing to consider.

I've dropped my old laptop 3 meters onto concrete (don't ask how it happened) with one of my MX100 and it survived (including the laptop) so...not that big of an achievement :P (and yes I know how a hard drive may just shat itself if it was shocked even the slightest...)

On a side note, my fathers 80GB toshiba in one of his work laptops is still going extremely strong after 10 years?

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

If this is a rig for gaming alone, why get the i7? You could get a 6600K instead and fit a GTX 1080 for a relatively small amount extra from the original £1170

I could probably get it down to £1150 if I put in a cheaper case and motherboard, but I don't really want to. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/9rGxgL (That + larger SSD)

Also, I know I'm gonna get objections for the H212Evo again, so if anyone has anything better at that price point, feel free to say so, I dont.

Please note, unless you have a 144hz 1440p monitor you want to drive, the 1080 is overkill, so, if you don't need the extra CPU power, I would stick with the i5 and 1070 and spend on SSD or save the money altogether. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/sHWfd6

Ah my trusty 320GB HDD from my HP DV3, I sometimes use it as a backup/transfer drive (with a USB 3 to sata cable) and it's still fine after 8 years of constant usage :P

On the topic of transferring files between my computers, I still feel stupid for "removing" (a clump of it is now stuck behind a drilled in book shelf...cause I was stupid) a 25 meter ethernet cable I pulled to my room...as my backup PC lives there now, coulda got 100~MB ethernet transfer speeds rather than using USB thumb drives/hard drives when ever I need to transfer something big :/ (AC wifi doesn't work that well for transferring you know...).

Horrible SSD, major bottleneck (6600K will basically make the 1080 useless), garbage PSU, overpriced board, please don't give him bad advice. He has worked hard for that money, wasting it on poor components is a BAD thing to suggest.

this WILL bottleneck the gtx 1080. its already bottlenecking the gtx 1070 in 1080p 144hz so it will definitely bottleneck it.

not a bad psu, but a psu for a lower-end rig(say, $500), not a frickin 1200 pound pc where he can more than likely get a great power supply that isn't as likely to kill his pc, is more power efficient and will last longer. even worse, better units like the cx450m and XFX TS exist for cheaper, so you have no reason to recommend this at all.

Are you open to buying from other places ? Or does it all have to be from Aria ?

What resolution are you gaming at ?

Do you want the option to overclock the cpu ?

I was under the impression the EVGA 500B was a good PSU, I didn't know it was now included in the blacklist, but I have seen it recommended on a number of occasions in this forum over others, with quite strong argument for it I might add. (especially over the CX series mentioned above!)

The motherboard is another instance of that same circumstance. I was under the impression the Z170A was favorably looked upon, and am sure it has been recommended many times over in this forum.

As far as the bottleneck goes, quick search reveals many comments in this forum suggesting this will not be the case and that the monitor would be a much more likely bottleneck in this scenario. I have also found not mention of this researching google, although granted I have yet to find any benchmark data to support my assertation either.

For the SSD, its good value for the capacity and I have used it and performs fine in my opinion, certainly better than anything at that price point, and again have seen several posts in this forum recommending it.

why are people still on this i5 is god CPU BS.

10% difference in GTA V when both are OCed and most of the time the i5 just catches up to the i7 when it is OCed to 4.5GHz, who says that you can get that OC? Also that is with maxwell Titan X, not Pascal, so this is basically a 1070. This graph is by digitalfoundry.

You might look at it and think oh that is nothing, well now think about the i7 giving you a more stable FPS, now think about that the i5 when running at 4.5GHz bearly gives the same FPS as a stock 6700k and what if you cannot get your i5 to that, now think about if your CPU goes up to 80-90% or over, then you might get some stuttering. Lastly think about the future.

and then you have this video that shows that at 1080p locked 60 FPS the 6600k at 4.5GHZ has a really hard time with a 1060. We even see 99% in witcher 3 and if you think it will get better in the furture then you are a fool, it will only get worse, when "next gen" games start hitting us in 2-3 years, then that i5 is fucked harder than it already is. Games are getting more and more CPU demanding.

@Dackzy Did I needed to be quoted in this post? :D (not like I didn't know or did I say anything about the i5 being better or worse than the i7,,,)

Just sayin as I think you didn't really need to quote everyone that's posted on this thread...

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

I was under the impression the EVGA 500B was a good PSU, I didn't know it was now included in the blacklist, but I have seen it recommended on a number of occasions in this forum over others, with quite strong argument for it I might add. (especially over the CX series mentioned above!)

its a decent unit, but it does not last as long as higher-end units due to lower quality capacitators, has higher ripple due to a cheaper design and is more likely to kill your components if anything happens due to less robust/missing safety features. its fine for a lower-end pc because its not a complete fire hazard but with higher end pcs you shouldn't be taking the chance of it potentially killing your $500 graphics card when you can spend a few bucks more on a better unit. also, the CX i mentioned is of a newer design and is similar to a seasonic m12ii, its the CX greens that are the corsair equivalent to the EVGA B1.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W
