Why do people still play on consoles?

IAEInferno

Just wanted to know since there are a lot of benefits when you play on the PC.

Just now, Oshino Shinobu said:

Cheaper, easier, generally more portable, friends play them, parents bought it etc. etc.

Consoles have a long list of benefits as well.

Like what exactly? Isn't it cheaper to have a powerful PC and buy discounted games on basically steam and any gaming site instead of a retail priced disk game? You can also pirate on the PC which basically makes any content free.

exclusives, easiness, cheaper (not in the long run though), friends on consoles, etc.

If you can't see why other people prefer other things, that is pretty narrow minded.

What Oshio said and there are reasons why experienced fellas pick them up as well. One of them(arguably only) - exclusives

For someone who has $300 to spend, telling them that it's cheaper in the long run really doesn't mean anything. They still don't have $1000 to blow on a powerful PC. Many people play only one or two games, so the cost of retail discs isn't a big deal for many.

Also, not everyone is willing to become a criminal to get stuff for free.

EDIT: As a side note, the PCMR and general "better than thou" attitude of the PC community really annoys me. Both have benefits and it really doesn't matter which one is better.

My guess is that most aren't making an active, well-informed, technically-minded decision between consoles and a PC as this thread seems to assume. There are a lot of kids, and a lot of people who aren't very tech-savvy. There are probably a lot who just don't follow this stuff closely enough to understand the difference. Consoles appear to be the easy option. It has a brand name they recognize, with what appears to be the lowest upfront cost. Some may not even be aware that gaming PCs are an actual alternative.

So if they can only play on or two games then it would just get boring after playing it for a few times and even then a lot more demanding games are coming so how you would also need to upgrade your consoles which you said that the person only has $300 which is kind of inefficient in spending money on the console, and also not everyone is willing to spend a lot of money on games where you can basically just buy it at a discounted price or even pirate it, movies, music, games, porn.

:P

but from personal experience, i have a fully functional PS1, a mostly functional PS2 (it locks up the moment ambient reaches 30°c), and a "homebrew" console for emulating pretty much everything that came before PS1. i use them when i want to plug & play, which in itself also explains the share of sarcasm just above, and why i do not have anything current gen.

I really don't think that spending $300 for a cheaper experience with less overall features and quality would be better. But hey, "to each their own".

Consoles are for children that dont have much money/ know any better.

someone who doesnt know how to torrent, buy pc parts wont know these benefits if they were brought up to play on a console

Thats a little far

For somebody who just wants to play games, doesnt want the complication/expense etc

I have consoles for the exclusives but they are perfectly fine machines if all somebody wants to do is game without fiddling around

They generally last a long time, and you only have to buy new hardware like every 5-10 years

is the PC better? yes, does it do more? yes, is it potentially cheaper in the long run? maybe

But if somebody just wants to play a decent selection of games without complication I really dont see the issue,, and lets not forget some people dont care about the extra stuff and just want to play games easily

I know people that play Battlefield and only Battlefield for years. Not from a lack of funds, but just because that's what they want to play. Just because you may get bored of a game after playing it doesn't mean others do. I played about 600 hours of Arma 2 (DayZ) before I stopped playing.

Consoles don't need upgrading until the next generation comes out, normally at least half a decade later. Not everyone needs to be on the cutting edge of performance, or have everything at ultra settings to have fun.

To many, it's a matter of not being able to afford the cost of a high end PC. And if you're playing something like Rocket League, it really doesn't matter if you're on PC or console, the experience is the same. Most people will have a PC or laptop anyway now days, so what extra features are you getting?

The ability to obtain your games illegally? Fantastic. Why would you pay for food when you can just steal it?

As if there weren't physical copies for PC... both still need a 10gb day one patch most of the time.

Not cheaper for the same peformance, plus it has an internet fee. The only real benefit I can think of are exclusives and more common split screen mp.

I would play on an average  at 900 hours if I really like a game then I would likely try another game, half a decade? I doubt that would still be efficient in terms of keeping in touch with the games you want to play, not everyone wants to play at lower fps and quality, it's just not fun.

To many, it's a matter of being able to get the best full experience in the way you want to play games, the immersion and satisfaction you get for being to able to see something so beautiful. And if you're playing an open world game like Skyrim, Witcher 3, then it really matters if you are on PC or a console, the experience is a lot better. Most people can do what a console can on a PC or laptop anyways, so what extra features do consoles have over the PC?

The ability to steal food without getting caught easily? Fantastic. Why would you work for food when you can just do stealth and steal food like in Skyrim?

I think it's the same reasons people use any preparatory system. They just work out of the box and you don't need to be tech savvy.
