Installing Kali on separate HDD

So I have a samsung SSD 750 evo, with my windows os on it plus some programs that I need to run fast. Then I have an HDD with 300 something gigs left on it with some programs installed on it too, like notepad plus plus and bit torrent. Can I partition the HDD to install kali on it, and boot to kali from my boot menu in BIOS even with the programs already on the drive?

You can install grub on the ssd(the bootloader)

You can then shrink the partition on the hdd and install it on there

You could also use a vm(hyper-v comes with windows.

You could do that as well. Just put grub on the hdd.

You don't have to use grub, but its nice.

So if I wasnt to use grub , how would I put Kali on the HDD. And how would I load into it every time.

grub is the bootloader, the thing that puts the kernel into the ram. If you don't use grub you can have a uefi setting, but its messy and you can't set kernel boot options.

If you didn't use grub, you would use the uefi boot menu.

Yeah doesnt seem like im planning on Installing it, ill just run it live. But I did attempt to install it and when I got up to the Partition part of the installation I aborted the thing. So were any files actually installed onto anything? cause if there were I want them deleted.
