Every Note7 owner (no matter where you got it, could it be from Samsung itself or your carrier) is at the present time being called by the company to receive a new one by mail starting from Sept. 19th.
The package will include a BNIB phone of your current color, a Gear VR (which was already promised for us pre-orderers) and a prepaid parcel to send the defective device back without charges.
We were also told that every recalled phone will be REMOTELY DEACTIVATED after Sept. 30th. It means that we practically have no other choice than following the procedure.
Some of us requested a commercial gesture for the inconvenience, which will be looked at.

 

 

 

If Samsung has determined the risk to be this serious, this is a good move for the safety of the customers, and hopefully they won't make the same mistake again.

hey at least they're willing to help out the customer by sending shipping materials for the customer to send back the defective goods. i've seen companies where they tell their customers to provide their own mode of shipping the goods, and normally are charged for them.

Nothing for Note 5 here...well having it's value dropping by 50-65% is..

I got mine for 700 new and now worth around 300...

I think Samsung will need a miracle to salvage the Note name from this.

Good, it will force these idiots who refuse to get a replacement because they think their unit is special and totally won't blow up one day.

Unless Samsung also blocks the IEMIs. That's up to the carriers to  enforce, but my understanding is that there is a central database shared by many network operators of blacklisted IEMIs.

I don't see much of a problem with what they're doing, they offer ways of easily moving your data and such over to a new phone, and they're replacing the phones which may have been affected by the battery issue and providing shipping materials to return the possibly defective phone all for free.

 

Sure forcing the users to swap out their phone for a new one that isn't a risk of exploding by disabling the phone is a little bit excessive, though if that's what it takes to make sure they don't have more phones randomly blowing up in someone's pocket, bag, home, etc.. then I'd say it's a fair response.

I'm on the side of the owners having the power over their devices, even if they do make poor decisions, though that tends to be my viewpoint in many things.

Well, I guess it's a good thing I didn't trade in my Note 5 to get a Note 7 yet. Lol. However for everyone that had only that phone are kind of screwed now. Hopefully the working shipments will start rolling in soon so I can trade in my Note 5 while it's still worth something. xD

Yeah theyr stocks dropped by 7% after airlines globally started prohibiting or inciting against the use of the Note 7 while aboard theyr airplanes. Even worst is that there seems to be a case, which has yet to be proven true, of an S7 Edge exploding and injuring a man earlier this year, according to GSMArena. A lawsuit will be taken against the company, not that there werent enough already it would seem.

At this rate it would Samsung Mobile future is moderately compromised. Could this incite to a completely new Samsung next year?

 

Obviously the blame isnt to be made on Samsung and they acted accordingly to safety rules so far, but at least theyr refridgerators and solid state drives/memory should keep being a reference point for them :P.

Normally I'd agree with you, but the phones catching fire presents a potential danger for people other than the owner of the device. In that case I have no problem with Samsung disabling them. HOWEVER what Samsung should do prior to that is send out notices to every Note 7 owner on their own telling them to turn in the phone or it's going to be disabled. Samsung sends enough fucking ads to phone owners the least they could do is send something useful for once.

Because there is more of a demand for iPhones. Look at any 2014 android phone that's had it's next gen come out in 2015. It will likely be half off or more.

if memory serves, Consumerist slammed Samsung hard for not initiating the recall over the proper channels and they only did it out of their own accord - that would've meant immediate cease of Note 7 sales until every last defect was remedied and people got replacements units

it doesn't help Samsung that a house and a car burned down due to Note 7s going "nuclear"

 

they also downplayed the issue saying that only 0.x percent of devices were affected - that doesn't mean devices that are already out there won't spontaneously combust, and guess what ...
