However, the large red E leaves something to be desired. Here is a stock image of the motherboard

Ever since I first saw the X79 Dark that was exactly the question on my mind:

What the hell is that ugly-ass E doing there? They could at least have made it

even (and smaller) and not tilted at an angle and so large; it just looks wrong

to me. Ah well, the way you've fixed it looks very nice IMO. thumb.gif

Also, +1 for Jameswalt's build, both the one you've cited and his current one

(have you seen the paint job on his new 900D? Holy crap! :o ). And the rest of

your inspiration list makes me confident that you'll do something awesome here. :D

That motherboard mod makes it look VERY nice. Love it.

I like the color scheme of Noctua fans. Deal with it. Forget about the bad memories of the past.

I'll be updating the log again sometime late tonight (probably very late) with more photos.

Cant wait!

Thanks! I have been following James' Robocop build and it is nothing short of jaw dropping thus far. As far as EVGA's design decision for the motherboard... I can only assume they wanted it to be more recognizable, but it would have looked way better if the red portions were a flat or gloss black by default. It's hard to confuse high end motherboards these days anyway since the layout itself is very distinct.

Indeed, I suppose their primary motivation is brand recognition. But as you say,

the people interested in buying a high-end M/B will know enough about them to be

able to distinguish them even with more subtle touches (or just smaller logos).

Ah well, can't have everything. There are quite a few things which annoy me much

more (Nvidia's recent multi-monitor limitations in the Linux driver for example :( )

at the moment.

Anyway, back to your build. :)

I requested a certain pattern. We'll have to see how it looks when I hook everything up. The extensions look great though. Quality work from Ensourced.

[snip]

Is there a particular reason why you mounted the CPU block 90* rotated?

That sleeving looks gorgeous. :)
