Google is gradually pushing for everyone to use TLS.

 

Excellent.

 

The increase in server load is justified by the increased security.

Nothing to really criticize here. Definitely an important step which is long overdue. It annoys me how some websites still don't use HTTPS, especially when passwords are being transmitted. Hope the marks will be bigger than just a small grey banner though. Let's Encrypt should make it easy enough, also SSL certificates are not that expensive if you don't need something like wildcards, so I don't really see an excuse to not use SSL here.

I think the server load is less of a worry these days with aes-ni.

 

Extra latency for session establishment is a concern, but then again there's http2 that more and more websites support that'll help combat latency.

 

It's also good this is happening in January after consumers have already plugged in their latest batch of electronics that doesn't support https into their network. Not being exposed to it early will help reduce blindness in cases where https matters more, ie over the internet.

Good, with recent browser's being able to clearly tell you if the webpage you're on is secure or not is very good.

I found this thing called a VPN people should try it when banking. I don't think using TLS alone with solve anything in terms of hacking protection. It won't hurt anything and can be useful for a baseline.

To website owners who do not encrypt their website due to cost of a SSL certificate, use Let'sEncrypt's API to generate FREE SSL certificates.

 

It has been implemented in many hosts through cPanel and is easily managed and re-instated through linux.

There are workarounds on Google if you can't follow the instructions for some reason.

 

Google already ranks HTTPS websites higher than HTTP, so no need for you to be at more disadvantages for not having SSL.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but isn't SSL 3 dead? Isn't it TLS now?
