Console Gaming Monitor

Arham

Hi guys, I want to buy a gaming monitor for my ps4, i am unaware of the specs terminology as i have previously gaming on a 40-inch tv. I want to buy a 4k monitor for ps4 pro when it comes out but i am confused among the vast range that is available. My first priority is 1ms response time or low input delay ( i dont know if they are the same thing or not).

I dont know that whether i should buy a TN panel or Ips, but i have heard that the TN has lowest input delay. I want the monitor strictly for my ps4 and i am a competitive player so low input delay is important to me, but i also want the 4k.

Moreover i also dont know whether G-sync matters with consoles or not? Can anyone please leave suggestions as i dont want to waste money. My budget is $400 give or take. Thanks

Consoles don't support G-Sync. Just get a TV. Input latency won't make much of a difference on a PS4. Also take note the PS4 does not support 4k at 60fps (hz).

G-sync is for computer GPU's from Nvidia, not consoles APU like chips that are btw based on AMD architectures, but even then Freesync isnt supported.

If response time is your 1º priority and you dont care about colour rendition, then this could be a decent monitor for your purpose. Also i assume your getting the 4K monitor, because your gonna use the PS4 Pro to watch 4K content like Netflix or Blu-Ray 4K movies?

The ps4 can only play games at 1080p and 60hz, so a 4k screen for the current ps4 is pointless FOR GAMING. For your ps4, go simple 1080p 60hz and ips. Don't know about the next ps4, i don't have enough info about it to recommend a monitor for it, so wait for it to be released to buy one.

IMO you don't need a computer monitor for the PS4. Just get any old TV and it will do the job just fine. You shouldn't be playing on the PS4 at your table anyways.

Just get the cheapest 4k monitor. It's stupid to buy a good 4k monitor for a console. It's like getting a G3258 and a GTX 1080.

LOL guys the PS4 pro will be releasing this november and it supports 4k and HDR gaming. I am a competitive player so there is input delay on a tv of 40ms i think. I want one with 1ms and 4k

If you are competitive and want to blow money, than get a PC and a 144Hz monitor with either G-Sync(Nvidia) or FreeSync(AMD)

It is a good monitor, but it's not 4k, it's 1440p and it is 144Hz, which is useless for a console. Most console games are locked at 30FPS and some at 60FPS.

Any display with a HDMI input will work with a console.

Here is a nice 4k monitor, it's 400$ dollars: Dell P2415Q. 4k is not really cheap yet, but it is getting there.

As for technology:

Refresh rate is basically how much frames per second can the monitor actually display. 60Hz monitor can show max 60 frames per second, even if the PC is capable of more.

Response time: How fast can the display show the image after it is delivered to the display.

FreeSync and G-Sync are technologies from AMD (FreeSync) and Nvidia (G-Sync). They have to be supported by both your GPU and monitor. They both do the same thing. They sync refresh rate of your monitor to your FPS to eliminate screen tearing. Consoles don't support them.

Here's what I could find. According to specs, 4k, and 1ms response time. Monitor

Now, IIRC, the PS4 runs an AMD GPU. So G-Sync would not be a process the PS4 could handle. Now on the other hand, Free-sync (AMD's monitor tech), might work. But I highly doubt it.

Response time is explained here: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/278610-display-technology-faqmythbuster/

My advice is don't make it a priority. Response time is not a measure of latency/input delay, it is completely unrelated. Latency is not listed in monitor specs. TN doesn't have lower latency than IPS, people are just confusing it with response time. Latency isn't related to panel type.

Consoles don't support G-Sync or Free-Sync.

I would say go with a nice IPS monitor like the Dell P2715Q.

ha ha. none. PS4 4k is just a marketing scheme to try and stay competetive with the xbox scorpio. Sure, you could 4k netflix with your ps4 pro but your 4k tv will do that by itself anyway
