you recall a post I made about a week ago regarding MSI having issues with GDDR5 plaguing their GTX1070?

well, we might have confirmation that something is up in the manufacturing chain

A DRAM production slip-up has forced a Korea-based vendor to scrap 30,000-50,000 wafers from its 21nm node, according to industry sources.

 

Yields on the vendor's 21nm process are not an issue, said the sources, adding that the production shortfall could further inhibit supply.

 

Major DRAM chip vendors have already moved to adjust their supply to counter sharply falling prices, while accelerating their technology transitions.

 

according to sources, we should expect DRAM prices in the supply chain to jump ~10% - I'd expect on the shelf price hike to be much more than 10% :|

How the fuck...are they doing any quality control and testing as the production line spews out DRAM chips? Seems like a big fucking NO...time to fire the guys in QC...

I did some math:

for the 300mm wafers, although they might've switched to the 450mm ones, and for a DRAM chip of 12*14mm (GDDR5 FBGA170) they lost anywhere between 10mil and 20mil possible DRAM chips

No you didn't, partly as a propaganda campaign by the West. Even during the Soviet Bloc era, products made in West Germany were almost universally labeled "made in Germany." No one buys tech from North Korea, so to say a Korean Firm lost wafers is to immediately say a South Korean firm did, because South Korea is the only Korea relevant to tech.

No, during the Soviet Bloc era. Things made in West Germany were not labelled as "made in Germany". And "Made in West Germany" is the mark of quality. The German were proud of that.

I'm afraid I've got several old open-comb razors from my grandfather who purchased them in West Germany when he served there, and they do not say "Made in West Germany"

You have other example? Your grandfather bought the razors before firms widely changed the label "made in West Germany". At least most products for export would say "made in West Germany".

It is locally "Korea" and officially just "Republic of Korea". Just as North Korea calls itself the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Calling South Korea just Korea is literally less incorrect than calling it South Korea.
